Universal has filed a new permit for Epic Universe, just a few short months after the park officially opened.
The permit details a large wall that will be built on the side of the park that is closest to the wastewater treatment plant, just northeast of Epic Universe, according to theme park reporter Alicia Stella.
A permit has been filed for a new construction project at Epic Universe. The description lists “building a 17′ sound wall” spanning 0.53 miles. The green wall will be built with steel columns every 20′ in most locations, to be infilled with panels that attach to the web of the columns.
While the official description is listed as a “sound wall,” it’s important to note that the location of the wall is on the northeast side of the park, near where the South Water Reclamation Facility is located. Many of our team members who have visited the park have reported no noticeable smell from what they experienced, though others online have reported catching the occasional whiff.
You can see the area the wall will be located in below in this photo from @bioreconstruct on X/Twitter. It’s in an area that has been marked for future park expansions — but what sort of expansions are we talking about, here?

Since this sound wall appears to be green from photos online, rumors have been swirling that this could be the beginning of a new Wicked-themed land. It wouldn’t be all that surprising, as Universal Pictures produced the film, and we’ve already seen several Wicked collaborations and experiences at Universal Orlando. Still, though, we’ll have to wait and see!
Of course, Universal has yet to drop any hints or make any announcements regarding what purpose this wall might actually serve other than as a “sound wall.” We’ll be on the lookout for even more Epic Universe updates; in the meantime, make sure you stay tuned to DFB for the latest Universal, Disney, and theme park news!
