Updates all around Disney World have begun. Disney is bringing us new lands, new attractions, new themes at existing attractions, and so much more. We’re so excited for what the upcoming years have in store for us at the Disney World parks! Over the past couple of years, Disney has made so many announcements regarding these changes, but there was one that we were particularly happy to hear.
While the bulk of the changes are happening at Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios, EPCOT cannot be left out. We haven’t forgotten about the exciting announcement regarding problem-solving changes headed to an EPCOT ride that is in dire need of them.
Back in October 2025, Disney announced that the Audio-Animatronics at Frozen Ever After will be getting a face-lift (literally)! The animatronics of Anna, Elsa, and Kristoff will be getting new faces, and it’s definitely for the better.
When the ride first opened, these animatronics were extremely high-tech. They were the first of their kind, being all-electric animatronic figures — combining electric motors and 3D printing. As you enjoy the ride, you’ll notice the very smooth motions of the animatronics, particularly Anna’s hands, wrist, and arm gestures as she’s using her magic in her ice castle.
But the one less impressive piece of these animatronics was their faces. The animatronics currently have projection-style faces, which seem cool in theory because then you can get more life-like facial gestures, but, unfortunately, they aren’t great in practice, especially when they stop working. When the projections break down, these animatronics are plain, old scary! The body keeps working, but the face becomes a black hole of nightmare fuel.
The update will remove the projection faces and give them actual faces like the animatronics on the same ride at Hong Kong Disney’s World of Frozen. These animatronics are amazing and have believable facial expressions. We were so impressed by them when we visited the new land.
You can see these animatronics’ faces look way better, and are definitely not scary.
We really hope this is how good the new faces will be in EPCOT!
Over in World of Frozen, guests can ride Frozen Ever After, but it looks just slightly different from the EPCOT version we know. Check out these Anna and Elsa animatronics! #HKDisneyland #LetItGo #WorldofFrozen #hosted pic.twitter.com/sjbTIsHCPU

The EPCOT Frozen Ever After ride will close on January 26th, so the original animatronics can get these updates. Luckily, it’s expected to be a relatively short closure since this is a really popular ride! When it’s over, there will no longer be scary animatronic faces, and we’re VERY excited about that. It will be great to have a bit of the technology from Hong Kong here at EPCOT.
In the meantime, we’re keeping a close eye on all the other changes and updates happening at Disney World, so keep following DFB for all the latest news!
