Devastating Snack News: Plastic Cheese Is GONE from Backlot Express at Hollywood Studios

Stop the presses! Sounds the alarm! Something devastating has happened in Hollywood Studios, and we’re not sure how we’ll ever recover.

The cheese sauce!

If you’ve been following Disney Food Blog for a while, you might have heard of our love for Plastic Cheese. No, it’s not actually plastic, but it’s a cup of yellow goodness that is way better than normal nacho cheese. It’s not the pack that comes with Mickey Pretzels but a different kind that makes us swoon. Now our heart feels pretty heavy because it’s MISSING.

When we were checking the online menu, as we do, we noticed that Cheese Sauce was off the menu at Backlot Express in Hollywood Studios. What?!? We obviously had to send a member of our team down to check it out in person because we just couldn’t believe it.

Sure enough, our beloved Plastic Cheese is off the menu. WHAT DO WE DO???????

Okay, okay. Deep breaths. It must be in other places at Hollywood Studios, but we had to check it with our own eyes to make sure. Dockside Diner and Woody’s Lunch Box still have this glorious $1 cup of golden beauty. Thank goodness.

Why do we love this cheap little add-on so much? Well, if you’ve had the nacho cheese with the pull-back lid on it from places like the pretzel carts, you might not have been overwhelmed. I understand because I used to be like that. What makes this other cup of cheese so much better than this one? Surely it’s all the same kind, right? NOPE! I had heard enough of my coworkers talking about it that I had to try it for myself.

It’s different, we promise!

I think the superior way to have it is at Casey’s Corner with the Mini Corn Dogs because once you dip your little corn dog into the yellow fountain of youth, you’ll understand. While it does taste like artificial cheese (as it should), it’s so much better than the other ones. The consistency is more enjoyable, and I think it has more flavor versus the other one, which makes do with pretzels and popcorn, but I usually jump into another quick service location to grab a cup before tearing through a Mickey Pretzel. We love the richer cheese flavor and how it’s usually served warm.

We love you, plastic cheese!

Maybe if we all band together and order more Plastic Cheese across Disney World, Disney will bring it back to even more locations! There’s so much to do with this cup of cheese, too. We love it with chicken tenders, French fries, burgers, popcorn, pretzels, mini corn dog nuggets, and potato chips. There’s also probably a hundred other things we would dip into liquid gold.
