In August of 2024, Disney hosted the massive D23 Ultimate Fan Event in Anaheim, California. The major convention broke news from across Disney’s spectrum of offerings, including films, television streaming, video games, and parks. One of the biggest announcements of the weekend came with the reveal of a BRAND NEW expansion to Disney California Adventure’s Avengers Campus.

Initially opened in 2021, the land marked the first full Marvel-themed area in a U.S. Disney park. Disney announced TWO new Marvel attractions coming to the land, including Avengers Infinity Defense. (The other attraction is Stark Flight Lab.) The new rides will open in 2028!

The long-awaited Avengers E-Ticket attraction has been teased at events going back to 2019. The final version of the attraction is called Avengers Infinity Defense.

Disney describes the new attraction’s plot as such: “Technology that allows the Avengers to jump between worlds has gone missing, and King Thanos is using it to wreak havoc everywhere.

Recruits will travel to iconic locations like Asgard, Wakanda, and New York City alongside the likes of big and small heroes…

… You also just might find yourself face-to-face with King Thanos, too.”

But first, you’ll be welcomed to Avengers Infinity Defense as a new recruit, where your journey begins with a pre-mission briefing from Ms. Marvel, played by Iman Vellani.

(More of your favorite on-screen heroes are reprising their roles for this attractions, including Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, and Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man.)

For context, in this ride, we’ll get a “multi-world experience” which is where King Thanos comes into play. He is a variant of the villain we all know from the Avengers film, but in this reality…he won. 😳

And from here? You know the drill… AVENGERS ASSEMBLE! Only in this reality, the Avengers are including YOU!

On the ride, Disney shares that massive physical sets and huge media scenes, will surround riders, essentially putting YOU in the center of battle while you feel as though “you’re hurtling across many worlds.” Which worlds, exactly? Disney has shared that recruits will travel to iconic locations like Asgard, Wakanda, and New York City, next to heroes you’ve come to know and love. 

At the 2024 D23 event, Disney shared a first look at the attraction’s ride vehicle with a maquette on display.

According to Disney, the vehicle itself is actually “key” to the story of the ride. You see, thanks to collaborations between inventors at Avengers Campus, the Avengers have been able to create a new vehicle that’s “capable of jumping between these worlds and even realities — on planet Earth and beyond.”

Disney has also noted that the ride vehicle will feature “a design that combines elements of Tony Stark’s time-suits with Xandarian jump points and Wakandan technology.”

Timeline for the Avengers Campus Expansion

As mentioned above, TWO new Marvel attractions are coming to the land, with Avengers Infinity Defense joining Stark Flight Lab. Though Disney has not revealed an official opening date for the Avengers Campus expansion, Disney has stated that both new attractions will open in 2028.
