In August 2021, Disneyland Resort introduced a new program to replace the previous Annual Passholder program: the Magic Key!
PLEASE NOTE: Though sales of NEW Magic Key Passes have been paused in recent months, Disneyland “will make select Magic Key passes available for new sales from time to time throughout 2023 as pass inventory becomes available.”
At this time, all Magic Key tiers are ONLY eligible for renewal. New sales are on pause.
The Magic Key program offers Key Holders “reservation-based admission” to the two Disneyland Resort theme parks: Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. Magic Key members have varying levels of theme park access and benefits based on the type of membership “Key” they hold.
Interested guests may purchase a Magic Key pass, online at either Disneyland.com or on the Disneyland app.

How to Use the Magic Key
DON’T FORGET: Along with valid admission, entry into the Disneyland Resort theme parks requires a theme park reservation. Here are the required steps:
1. Access the Calendar
Check the Magic Key access calendar on the Disneyland website, which shows admission and blockout dates for your pass as well as current park reservation availability.
2. Make a Reservation
Make sure you’re signed into your Disney account and that your Magic Key ID (which is the 18-digit number you receive upon purchase) is linked to your account. Then, visit Park Reservations to start the reservation process. (We have a step-by-step guide on this process here.) Pick the date and park you want to visit, based on availability. Magic Key Holders can make reservations for one park only OR both parks (known as park hopping), depending on availability.
CLICK HERE to learn about the required Theme Park Reservations for Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.
Note that if you select both parks, you can choose the park where you will start your day and may switch between parks starting at 1PM that same day (capacity allowing). You MUST enter the first park for which you made a reservation for that date before visiting the other park. (A park reservation is NOT required for the second park after visiting your first park of the day, but will still be based on capacity.)
3. Review and Confirm Your Visit
The third and final step is to look over your theme park reservation and agree to the Terms & Conditions (including the COVID-19 liability waiver) and then select “Confirm” to complete your park reservation. You need to provide an email address to receive your reservation confirmation.
Upon arrival at the theme park you’re visiting, present your Magic Key pass in the Disneyland app to enter the park.
Magic Key Benefits
Additional perks are available for Magic Key Holders!
They include the following:
- Magic Key Terrace in Disney California Adventure is a lounge that is specifically designated for Magic Key Holders and their friends and family. Note that Magic Key Terrace is reportedly being renovated to become a “hacienda hideaway,” according to the Orange County Register. This space is currently open to Magic Key holders, and parts of it will remain open throughout the refurbishment process. The renovations are expected to be complete in late Spring 2022. Click HERE to learn more!
- Magic Key Holder Months will bring month-long celebrations of Magic Key Holders!
- Special Experiences will be available exclusively for Magic Key Holders, including offerings during the seasonal Festivals at Disney California Adventure and collectible merchandise.
- Magic Key Holders will have First Access to many new offerings and merchandise collections at Disneyland Resort.

Key Holders can also view the Magic Key Access Calendar and make park reservations.

Disney Genie
Magic Key Holders are able to make use of — and receive a discount on — the Disney Genie service. This NEW service is available within the Disneyland Mobile app. Disney Genie provides on-the-go planning tools and customized itineraries to help guests maximize their park time in the parks.
The standard Disney Genie — which includes features like dining tips, recommendations for when to head to your next attractions, and enhancements to the Disability Access Service — is a complimentary service.
There are also optional add-ons available for a fee. TWO different options are available, and they allow guests to bypass the standby lines for attractions and instead enter the Lightning Lane. The Disney Genie+ base-price option — for $20 per person, per day — allows guests to select the next available time to arrive at an attraction and enter that ride’s Lightning Lane at over 15 attractions across Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. Magic Key holders will be able to get 20% off the purchase of Disney Genie+ when using their pass for park admission.
The other paid option is available for DIFFERENT — and more in-demand — attractions. Disney’s Individual Attraction Selection service (pay-per-ride) is how guests can pay a fee to utilize the Lightning Lane for an individual attraction.
The previous ride reservation programs — FastPass and MaxPass — are permanently retired, and these new services have taken their places at Disneyland.
Disneyland Magic Key Holders are able to add Disney Genie+ and/or individual Lightning Lane selections on the day of their visit. Disneyland Magic Key Holders may be interested to know exactly how Disney Genie+ and Individual Attraction Selection is different from the previous MaxPass program, and you can find out by clicking here.
“No-Show” Policy
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING regarding the “no-show policy” (text below is from the Disneyland website):
“The ability of Magic Key holders to make and hold park reservations will be impacted by the “no show” policy. Magic Key holders who are a “no show” for 3 reservations in a 90-day window will be unable to make new park reservations for 30 days. Existing park reservations at that time will not be cancelled. The 30-day period begins the day after the third “no-show,” and will continue even if the pass is upgraded to another pass during that time. A Magic Key holder who enters the designated park any time before closing on the day of the reservation is not considered a “no-show.” If the reservation is for both parks, only one park needs to be entered to avoid being a “no-show.” Magic Key holders who timely cancel a reservation are also not considered a “no-show.” Cancellation of a reservation must be done by 11:59 PM PT on the day before the reserved date. Rules and policies are subject to change without notice.”
Additional Information
- Existing Disneyland tickets may be upgraded to Magic Key Passes, and guests may also upgrade Annual Passes to the new Magic Key Passes. Find out more here!
