Get ready to visit San Fransokyo Square at Disney California Adventure when it opens in the summer of 2023 in Disneyland Resort! The area currently known as Pacific Wharf in Disney California Adventure is being reimagined into this new land. Work on the transformation officially began in January 2023.
Fans of the Walt Disney Animation Studios film Big Hero 6 will be familiar with San Fransokyo — “where East meets West, and technology meets tradition.” San Fransokyo, as Disney shares, is “a fictional mash-up of two iconic cities – San Francisco and Tokyo.”
Guests can look forward to exploring this transformed land which will include refreshed dining experiences and new shopping experiences along with a Baymax meet-and-greet!
The San Fransokyo Gate Bridge will “span the tide pools linking San Fransokyo Square to the Paradise Gardens Park obelisk” and there will also be an old-fashioned floating wind turbine.
The dining locations you know and love will remain open, and new Asian-inspired selections will be coming as well.
Pacific Wharf is currently home to a working replica of San Francisco’s Boudin Bakery as well as several eateries including: Pacific Wharf Cafe, Ghirardelli Soda Fountain & Chocolate Shop, The Lucky Fortune Cookery, Wine Country Trattoria, the Magic Key Terrace (A Magic Key Passholder-exclusive location), Mendocino Terrace, Cocina Cucamonga Mexican Grill, and Rita’s Baja Blenders.
The Port of San Fransokyo Cervecería is a re-themed dining location (looks like Cucina Cucamonga will still be there based on the concept art, and that this is a re-theme of the outdoor beer garden area next to it) that Disney describes as tri-cultural, using English, Japanese, and Spanish signage.
They’ll serve up a blend of Asian-inspired dishes and more American-ized food (and hopefully some Mexican fare too!).
The eateries and retail locations will be in keeping with the story of the reimagined land: “As the tech industry began to emerge and the local fishing trade fell on hard times, entrepreneurs came together to reinvent the seaside canneries into a vibrant, multicultural district of neighborhood restaurants and small businesses where you’ll be able to eat and shop.”
As mentioned above, San Fransokyo Square will also offer a Baymax meet-and-greet!
The reimaging of Pacific Wharf was announced in September 2022 by Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro.
We will keep you posted as more information is revealed for San Fransokyo coming to Disney California Adventure!
