Get ready to visit San Fransokyo Square at Disney California Adventure! This reimagined land officially opened on August 31, 2023 in Disneyland Resort. The area previously known as Pacific Wharf has been reimagined into this new Big Hero 6-themed land.
Fans of the Walt Disney Animation Studios film Big Hero 6 will be familiar with San Fransokyo — “where East meets West, and technology meets tradition.” San Fransokyo, as Disney shares, is “a fictional mash-up of two iconic cities – San Francisco and Tokyo.”
Guests can explore this transformed land which includes refreshed dining experiences and new shopping experiences along with a Baymax meet-and-greet!
The San Fransokyo Gate Bridge “spans the tide pools linking San Fransokyo Square to the Paradise Gardens Park obelisk.”
Let’s explore San Fransokyo Square!
San Fransokyo Square Dining
Dining locations you know and love from Pacific Wharf remain open, while new Asian-inspired selections have arrived as well. Other locations have been rethemed for San Franksokyo! All of the eateries and retail locations — both old and new — are still in keeping with the story of the reimagined land.
Disney shares: “As the tech industry began to emerge and the local fishing trade fell on hard times, entrepreneurs came together to reinvent the seaside canneries into a vibrant, multicultural district of neighborhood restaurants and small businesses where you’ll be able to eat and shop.”
Aunt Cass Café
Among these are Aunt Cass Café, which Disney shares is “the second bakery café operated by Hiro’s loving aunt,” and serves “dishes and soups in freshly-baked Boudin sourdough bread bowls and more inspired by Japanese cuisine.”
This restaurant is a refresh of the previous Pacific Wharf Cafe.
Rita’s Turbine Blenders
And Rita’s Baja Blenders has been transformed into Rita’s Turbine Blenders, which is “a giant drink dispenser offering delicious margaritas and icy beverages” owned by and named after the repair technician who maintains the floating wind turbine on top of the structure.
(If you look closely, it resembles a giant koi fish.)
Port of San Fransokyo Cervecería
The Port of San Fransokyo Cervecería is a re-themed dining location (it’s the outdoor beer garden area next to Cocina Cucamonga) that Disney describes as tri-cultural, using English, Japanese, and Spanish signage.
Cervecería is Spanish for “Brewery,” and it serves several selections from Karl Strauss Brewing Company. On the outside, it has a “fun and inviting beer garden decorated with festoon lights and papel picado.”
Lucky Fortune Cookery
The Lucky Fortune Cookery is one of the eateries that remains in keeping with the story of the reimagined land, and delivers NEW menu items for San Fransokyo!
Among the dishes are the new Baymax Macaron and the Karaage-inspired Crispy Chicken Sandwich.
Cocina Cucamonga
Cocina Cucamonga Mexican Grill continues to feature Mexican-inspired fare.
It’s where you can now find San Fransokyo Street Corn among other new items!
Ghirardelli Soda Fountain & Chocolate Shop
Truly indulgent Ghirardelli sundaes, shakes, scoops, and cones are up for grabs at the Ghirardelli Soda Fountain & Chocolate Shop!
Ghirardelli Soda Fountain & Chocolate Shop was the first independently owned-and-operated establishment to open its doors in Disney California Adventure, and it keeps its home in the new San Fransokyo Square!
Boudin Bread Bakery Tour
Pacific Wharf was home to a working replica of San Francisco’s Boudin Bakery, and this experience also remains as part of the reimagined San Franksokyo Square.
You can take a tour and see for yourself the process behind the making of the famous San Franciso Sourdough Bread!
Boudin Bread Cart
Baymax Bread has arrived at the Boudin Bread Cart in San Fransokyo Square!
Cappuccino Cart
Find your morning, afternoon, or evening pick-me-up at the Cappuccino Cart!
Joffrey’s Coffee is served up in a wide array of specialty beverages.
San Fransokyo Square Characters
As mentioned above, San Fransokyo Square is also home to a Baymax meet-and-greet!
The Disneyland website reads: “Stop by to greet the huggable healthcare robot—and boy genius Hiro Hamada too!”
San Fransokyo Square Shopping
And guests can visit San Fransokyo Maker’s Market, a storefront “stocked with unique apparel, homewares and more featuring Baymax and friends” located near the Hamada Bot Shop.
Up above, the local battlebot champion, Hiro’s Megabot, sits in the rafters.
Nearby, a “vending machine dispenses collectible golden medallions featuring Baymax and other iconic images from San Fransokyo.”
And Disney Pin collectors can visit Pan Pacific Pin Traders!
