Cake Boss Buddy Valastro Creates a “Disney Dream” Cake — Literally!

Thanks to Todd Perlmutter from the Disney Film Project Podcast for this fun photo journey from last week’s Disney Dream Cruise! Chef Buddy Valastro from TV’s “Cake Boss” was on board and created a special cake for the cruise line!

Buddy Valastro and his team of talented chefs board the Disney Dream to show off a cake that includes a working AquaDuck. While on the cruise, Buddy and his wife, Lisa, renewed their vows! The episode of Cake Boss including this fun escape from Hoboken will air in January 2012.

Thankfully, it’s smooth sailing during the cake’s arrival.

Disney Dream Recipe: Smoked Bison from Remy

We’re still covering our visit on the January Christening Cruise, which we like to refer to as our Disney Dream Dine Around! And today I’ve got a recipe from the Disney Dream to share with adventurous chefs!

Where to Find It

At Remy aboard the Disney Dream, diners may want to enjoy this appetizer from the tasting or a la carte menu. In this French-inspired restaurant, at least you can pronounce the name of this selection! ;-)

Remy is located on Deck 12 and is an adults-only restaurant that surpasses the luxury of the adjacent Palo. This is one of the finest dining experiences at sea!

How to Make It

OK, so this recipe is probably a bit too involved for me to try, but some of you adventurous chefs out there should be able to find the substitutes and give it a go! Let us know how it works out!

Smoked Bison with Melted Fennel and Leeks, Hearts of Palm Salad and Blood Orange-Tangerine Vinaigrette
Serves 8 as an appetizer

Bison Ingredients
1 pound buffalo tenderloin
3 tablespoons fennel pollen

Top Ten Disney Cruise Line Dining Tips

Kim L. is our Disney cruise guru around here! (Seriously. She knows EVERYTHING about cruising and was even the Disney World Moms Panel Cruise Specialist her second term on the panel.) She’s put together her top 10 tips to get the most out of your Disney Cruise dining experience, but we want to hear your tips as well, pretty please. 1. Order The Cake of the Day: Order the Cake of the Day from Room Service! Room service is complimentary (although a gratuity is appreciated), and it’s fun to sample (um, okay, devour ;-)) different cake slices.

2. Skip Shore Excursion Eats: Use Room Service for a quick sandwich while getting ready for your shore excursion. Then time your return to the ship to coincide with your next meal.

3. Find Hidden Treats: Ask your server to start each meal with a cheese (similar to All Hands On Deck) or seafood platter (I saw shrimp served in the Mediterranean) for the entire table to enjoy. It’s not on the menu. Parents can request cheese, grapes, and crackers for the kids. Just ask if it’s available during your voyage!

Guest Review: Pink on the Disney Dream

Welcome to guest author Nancy Oates, who’s sharing with us today a visit to the Disney Dream’s Pink Lounge! Take it away, Nancy!

With a name like Pink and a subtle elephant on the door to welcome us, it quickly became clear that we were entering an extension of the Pink Elephants on Parade scene from the movie Dumbo.

Fittingly, the lounge was pink and ethereal. Even the lighting mimicked the bubbles in a champagne glass.

Disney Dream Guest Review: Non-Alcoholic Specialty Drinks

Welcome guest author James Dolan with a thirst-quenching review of mocktails aboard the Disney Dream!

There is a big market for “adult beverages.” That is a euphemism for drinks containing alcohol. Those of us who are adults who don’t consume alcohol are left with the routine fountain sodas, plain fruit juices and occasionally a decent bottled root beer. If you’re lucky, you might actually get a Shirley Temple made correctly (with ginger ale), and if you’re really lucky it might have a cherry for garnish. Of course, there is always the standard, uninspired non-alcoholic pina colada or strawberry margarita.

Meanwhile, our alcohol-consuming friends are choosing from lengthy lists of “adult beverages” and receiving brightly colored drinks in fancy glasses with artfully placed garnishes. These drinks usually cannot be ordered in a non-alcoholic version because they consist of (big surprise) mostly alcohol.
