Three Monster Sundaes You Have to Try at Disney World
The New Kid: The 10-Gallon Challenge at Whispering Canyon Cafe
Have you ever wanted to sit down to 10-Gallons of Ice Cream? Tempting, I know. But probably not realistic.
But you can come close to it when you and a few friends dig into the 10-Gallon Challenge at Whispering Canyon Cafe in Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.
While larger-than-life sundaes have been around for a while, we’ve never seen anything quite like this. The dish comes to the table not in a bowl, but in a clear Ten-Gallon Cowboy Hat. So sit a spell, Cowpokes. It’s time to dig into some serious vittles.
While not actually 10 gallons — the name comes from the hat, of course — your community sundae comes with ALL of the following:
- Scoops of Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, and Mint-Chocolate Chip Ice Cream
- Pineapple Sauce, Strawberry Sauce, and Caramel Sauce
- A whole slice of Apple Pie
- Two Cupcakes
- Whipped Cream aplenty
- Brownies
- Mickey Sugar Cookies — complete with Chocolate Dipped Ears!
- Banana
- Oreos
- Toasted Marshmallows
- Chocolate. Covered. Bacon. (um…), AND
- Cherries
Wait. Did you catch that? We did say Chocolate Covered Bacon.
With soooo much dessert on offer, we bet you and your three friends could probably share with the table next door and still have plenty to pass around.
But I’m not sharing the bacon.
FYI — this one is on a trial run, so if you want it, go get it soon! It may not make the permanent menu.
The Classic: The Kitchen Sink at Beaches and Cream
When I think of giant, over-the-top sundaes, there’s one that eclipses all others and sets the standard. Yep, I’m talking about the legendary Kitchen Sink at Beaches and Cream. We love this iconic dessert so much that we put it #OnTheList!
And you wanna know the best part? There isn’t just one version, or even two versions. There are three different ways (!?!!!?) you can experience this Bounty of Ice Cream Goodness — The Original, Chocolate Lover’s, or Neapolitan!
This one’s got it all, my friends. The Original features scoops of Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, Coffee, and Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream, covered by every single topping they have available.
What might those be? Look for some combo of Brownies, Pound Cake (cake and ice cream heaven!), Oreos, Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chips, Chocolate Sauce, Peanut Butter Sauce, and Caramel Sauce, (breath)…Candy Bars, Pineapple, Fresh Banana, Gummies, a few Orange Gummy slices (for real! Thanks, Frozen Sunshine!), Chocolate Shavings, Nuts, and a Jar of Maraschino Cherries (give or take). Oh, and did I mention an entire can of Whipped Cream?
I hope you — and all of your friends partaking — brought the stretchy pants. You’re gonna need ’em.
The Uptown Version: The Earthquake at Ghirardelli
But we have another entry in the category of Monster Sundaes. You’ll find this one courtesy of Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop.
While it’s not quite as gargantuan as our first two options, The Earthquake is still pretty spectacular. We are talking about eight scoops of Ice Cream, Bananas and eight different Toppings, Whipped Cream, chopped Almonds, semi-sweet Chocolate Chips, and Cherries. This sundae, which is clearly meant for sharing, will easily feed four people or more! And since it features Ghirardelli’s amazing chocolate, it’s in a class all of its own.
You’ll find it on both coasts, at Disney California Adventure’s shop and at Disney Springs Marketplace.

Megan says
Disney should make more options around these sorts of things. Instead of just throwing everything ice cream-related under the sun into the bowl, have themed ones. A peanut butter lovers one, or caramel, even a sorbet/berry sort of giant sundaes would be amazing.
Essie says
Yep, they all look good, but variety is rthe spice of life!
Cate says
Which is bigger, the ten gallon challenge or the kitchen sink?
Art says
The Term Gallon Challenge is no more.
