We’ve recently seen a few openings at EPCOT, including the Imagination Pavilion Popcorn Cart and Garden House. Now, we’ve spotted a location reopening at Hollywood Studios — Hollywood Scoops!

Well, we’ve got some good news today! Our next home-cooking endeavor is one so colossal and SO SWEET! We’re taking a look at how to recreate some absolutely iconic and truly epic Disney World ice cream sundaes at home. So if you have a sweet tooth (like, a really big one), get ready to jump in!

Three Monster Sundaes You Have to Try at Disney World
The New Kid: The 10-Gallon Challenge at Whispering Canyon Cafe
Have you ever wanted to sit down to 10-Gallons of Ice Cream? Tempting, I know. But probably not realistic.
While larger-than-life sundaes have been around for a while, we’ve never seen anything quite like this. The dish comes to the table not in a bowl, but in a clear Ten-Gallon Cowboy Hat. So sit a spell, Cowpokes. It’s time to dig into some serious vittles. [Read more…]
Recently, I was in Disneyland for the Disney California Adventure Food and Wine Festival. And while I ate a lot of wonderful food and attended some delicious special events, I KNEW it was time for me to finally hit up Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop for some super sweets. And by super sweets, I mean SUPER BIG ICE CREAM!
See, I had heard that one of my all time favorite Ghirardelli treats — the Gold Rush Sundae — was alive and well at the DCA location, even though it’s not listed on the menu (and no longer found at all at the Disney Springs location in Walt Disney World). And I also knew that I HAD to try the ginormous Earthquake Sundae as well (this one IS found at Disney Springs in Disney World, just FYI). [Read more…]
Ah, the hottest days of summer are upon us! And I can think of no better way to cool down than with a frosty ice cream treat!
And don’t you love all the forms of yummo snacks that ice cream can take? Its natural diversity makes it a perfect candidate for one of our favorite pastimes…
Introducing, The Disney Food Blog Disneyland Ice Cream Crawl!
Now, we realize, this is a LOT of ice cream. So feel free to break up your crawl over a period of a few days. Or, you know, eat ice cream for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (and snacks). We won’t judge.
So without delay, let’s hit it!
Chocolate Chip Cookie Hot Fudge Sundae at Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor
We are going to start our Epic Ice Cream Day with a stop into Gibson Girl Ice Cream.
The vintage vibe is alive and well in this recently-renovated Main Street USA staple. I love all of the old fashioned ice cream shop options you have here. The Waffle Cones, made right there in the shop, are deeeelish!
And who wouldn’t love an Ice Cream Soda served in a real (souvenir) glass?
But my favorite treat at Gibson Girl is the Chocolate Chip Cookie Hot Fudge Sundae. It has everything — Cookies, Hot Fudge, Whipped Cream — and of course, Ice Cream!
With my love of Handmade Cookie Ice Cream Sandwiches, this was made for me! Really. It ought to be called “The AJ”. 😉
Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar
After your breakfast sundae and a trip or two down the Matterhorn, you’ll be ready for a snack — and I have just the thing. We couldn’t go too far in our odyssey without having that most iconic Disney ice cream treat a — Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar.
With all of the amazing snacks and food at Disney, I have to carve out time for this one on every trip!
How could you resist? It’s a smile on a stick!
The Butterscotch Sundae at Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop
For our next ice cream stop, head over to Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop. It’s a match made in heaven — rich ice cream coupled with some of the best chocolate around!
The choices are dizzying here…it’s practically impossible to make a decision! Normally I can’t resist their [Read more…]
Ah, Disneyland. Gorgeous weather, original park dreamed up by Walt himself, and home of some seriously fantastic ice cream treats. Today, we’re stopping by the recently-renovated Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor on Main Street USA to check out one of their house specialities!
Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor has long been a fixture on Main Street USA, and guests can often expect to encounter long lines here as they await their turn to order their favorite cone, cup, shake, or sundae.
But with some extra added touches, you may soon find that it’s well worth the wait. Plus, we have a tip for minimizing line time… .
It’s very likely that you’ll smell Gibson Girl Ice Cream before you spy it. There’s some serious freshly baked waffle cone-age happening inside, after all!!
Step inside, and you’re immediately greeted by a “sorbet” palette (get it?!? the hits keep on comin’). Pink, mauve, and pale green/blue combine to provide a pleasing Victorian feel.
The swirling dark wood pattern reminds me of filigree, in contrast to a backdrop of pastel, marbleized stained glass.
Turn-of-the-century, Victorian touches extend above and below as well. Ornate brass chandeliers hang from intricate ceiling medallions, and the ceiling design mimics tin tiles.
Striking wall sconces softly illuminate while adding a powerful decor punch.
And, if you peer out the painted window at just the right time, you may just spy a [Read more…]
It’s time to take an ice cream break! And I know just the place — Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies in Disney World’s Magic Kingdom!
This cool spot offers up soft serve for guests who are looking for a little refreshment between attractions…but they have some other fun menu items too! Time to check it out.
Auntie Gravity’s is located in that thoroughfare that meshes Fantasyland into Tomorrowland. You’ll find this little spot directly across from the Tomorrowland Speedway.
The signage with the name of the location hangs on the wall of the building — viewable only from the Fantasyland side.
So if you’re searching for Auntie Gravity’s and coming from Tomorrowland, keep a look out for the ginormous “Ice Cream and Smoothies” sign that hangs overtop both doors leading into the shop.
There’s not a lot of atmosphere to speak of in the small space! There’s just enough room for a few counter-service stands and a walk-up window to get your goodies.
Once you get your eats, you’ll head back outside to a group of tables just beyond the doorway. Keep on the look-out for PUSH, the talking trash can in this area! (You can also take advantage of indoor seating at Cosmic Rays, which is just next door.)
Auntie Gravity’s is purely a snack stop, so it’s great for a midday treat or after meal dessert most of the time. But one of the more unique options you’ll find here is the Iced Coffee Float, a fan favorite. I’ve only seen these at a few other locations, like Sunshine Tree Terrace.
The exception to the “find no meals here” rule is [Read more…]
And I knew it was time to take a look at a couple more fan-favorite sundaes at these lovely locations!
Recently, I showed you the amazing Sea Salt Caramel Hot Cocoa and the to-die-for Drinking Chocolate, but today it’s time to check out some sundaes that many of us can only dream about as we count down ’til our next Disney vacation!
In case you aren’t familiar with Ghirardelli Soda Fountain in Walt Disney World, it’s a combo chocolate shop and old-fashioned ice cream parlor located right beside World of Disney at Downtown Disney’s Marketplace.
Even if you don’t indulge in a decadent treat, be sure to pop into the retail shop; they’re often giving out Ghirardelli chocolate square samples!
But if it’s ice cream you’re after, you are in for an amazing treat! There is a fantastic collection of huge ice cream sundaes here, big enough to share (although you may not want to).
There are also plenty of other options, like ice cream cones, shakes, floats, hot cocoa, and espresso.
But let’s get on to the sundaes!
Cookie Bottom Sundae
There are few things in life that I love more than a good cookie and ice cream combo. And I loved checking out this highly recommend sundae!
Half of a warm Colossal Chocolate Chip Cookie forms the base of this sundae. To that, they add [Read more…]
