The holidays are in full effect at Disney Parks on both coasts, and Disney California Adventure Park’s Flo’s V-8 Cafe is in on the action with a trio of holiday-specific menu items.
Unfortunately, Flo’s trio isn’t revving up any engines here at the DFB. First up, a perfectly average chocolate shake with a sprinkling of peppermint bits called, well, a Chocolate Peppermint Shake.
In addition to the peppermint bits, which add some festive color on top but very little flavor once they’re mixed in, the pre-mixed chocolate shake is also topped with whipped cream and chocolate cookie crumbles.
We enjoy the look — it’s a bit funky and fun — but we found this to be a snore. If you’re looking to dip your toe into holiday treats, this one will suit the mediocre bill.
The 4″ Chocolate Peppermint Pie is another disappointment, unfortunately. It looks the part of a holiday treat, complete with a miniature candy cane.
But basically this is just a mound of peppermint whipped cream/pudding/frosting (it seemed like a mix of the three, so I’m not 100% sure which one it was) on top of a regular chocolate pie. It’s cute and fun, but nothing to rush over to Flo’s to get.
The cross-section does show a great pie to filling ratio, but it was really one-note and kind of blah. The pie, for its part, is a super thin chocolate pie crust filled with dense chocolate filling. But…meh overall.
Flo’s savory holiday option is the Open-Faced Turkey Sandwich. And given the vibe of Flo’s, this should be a hit — a diner-ready plate of carbs and gravy. But… there’s nothing to see here, folks. It’s toasted bread with a pile of admittedly good mashed potatoes, two slices of not-very-flavorful turkey, and some standard turkey gravy.
This sandwich is Flo’s Blue Plate Special, but you’ll want to pass. There’s nothing interesting to contrast the muddled turkey sandwich flavors. If they’d thrown in some cranberry sauce, it would’ve been improved. As is? No, thanks.
Flo’s earned three strikes with her holiday offerings this year, so you’ll want to cruise on by, letting her cafe disappear in your rearview mirror.
If you’re heading to Disneyland to celebrate the holiday season, you’ll want to download and print out the DFB’s exclusive holiday snack checklists! And don’t forget to check out the full menus (with prices!) for all of the DCA Festival of Holidays Marketplace Booths here.
What’s your favorite holiday flavor combination? Tell us in the comments!

We tried Flo’s for the first time last January, and really liked the ribs and roast beef sandwich we tried. We also really liked the apple pie. It became a new DCA favorite… and then they changed the menu to the same burgers you can everywhere else in the parks. It went from a “must do” to a “who cares?” for us.

Our last trip to Disneyland was in 2016…and it might be our last…period. It felt like everyone working in the parks was phoning it in. They had enormous crowds everywhere, and no one cared a whit about customer service. Our hotel, the Paradise Pier, had about 4-5 bell boys standing around as we struggled to get luggage and groceries out of our car. Not one person came to help…We got it all in in several trips from our hired car, with the guy who drove us assisting. That was the beginning and it didn’t get better. I was really disappointed, and after the 5 days, was happy to be home. After numerous trips to WDW since 2009–we have not been back and have no trips planned. There are so many other places to see….If Disney doesn’t care about me like they used to –as they show with bad overpriced food and long lines and bored workers–then I can spend my money elsewhere.

I know we tried the new menu this summer, and we were disappointed! The chicken was so dry , the salad was a disaster. I was hoping this Holiday menu would be better! Flos at the beginning was great, but now its just leaves you disappointed!!
