WE DO! With the new year quickly approaching, we keep hearing the date “January 17th” EVERYWHERE.
Rise of the Resistance
Rise of the Resistance will officially make its way to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland on January 17th. And because we know how truly epic this ride is from experiencing the attraction in Disney World earlier this month, we are seriously excited for its debut on the West coast!!
Rise of the Resistance is definitely the star of Galaxy’s Edge thanks to its leading technology. The attraction includes 3 different ride systems, multiple levels, and over 3oo animatronics! On the ride, guests join the Resistance and will have to escape from the First Order after being captured.
Sounds pretty epic, right?
Lunar New Year
The Lunar New Year will officially kick off at Disney California Adventure on January 17th and will run through February 9th, 2020.
2020 is the Year of the Mouse (AAAAAH SO PERFECT!) and DCA will celebrate this big year with “multicultural performances, fun-filled activities, beautiful décor, delicious cuisine, and specialty merchandise.”
Characters will greet around the park, and Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession will be making its way back to Disney California Adventure too.
But that’s NOT EVEN CLOSE TO EVERYTHING HAPPENING on January 17th!
Now, let’s head on over to Disney World to see what happenings are taking place on January 17th there!
Epcot’s International Festival of the Arts
Epcot’s International Festival of the Arts will officially kick off on January 17th, 2020. It will run until February 24th and should be filled with stunning artwork and delicious food.
The festival features Food Studios, which are food booths similar to what you see at Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival. But while Food and Wine eats are always gorgeous, Festival of the Arts focuses even MORE on presentation. Each dish is a mini piece of artwork, which typically means that they’re very bright and colorful.

Disney on Broadway
Speaking of Epcot’s International Festival of the Arts, one of its main events, Disney on Broadway, also kicks off on January 17th!
The Disney on Broadway Concert Series features performances by some of Broadway’s most accomplished actors who have starred in Disney Broadway Musicals. At the America Gardens Theatre, these performers sing some of Disney’s most beloved tunes. Performances take place each night at 5:30 PM, 6:45 PM, and 8:00 PM.
And get this!! There is also a Disney on Broadway Concert Series Dining Package, which allows guests to pair their breakfast, lunch, or dinner at a participating Epcot restaurant AND get guaranteed priority seating for the concert on the same day!
Canada Far and Wide
Disney recently shared that the new film coming to the Canada Pavilion, known as Canada Far and Wide would be opening on January 17th, 2019.
The new film will also feature two NEW narrators — Catherine O’Hara and Eugene Levy. (You probably know them from Schitt’s Creek, but I know them from ALLLLLL the Christopher Guest films and I CAN’T WAIT!)
We cannot wait to travel to Canada in a new way with Canada Far and Wide. You can read more about this new film here!
Another film that’s making its way to Epcot on January 17th is Awesome Planet. This new film is coming to The Land Pavilion and will be “an on-screen exploration of the realm we call home,” and “showcases the spectacular beauty, diversity and dynamic story of our earth with all the grandeur guests have come to expect.” Crystal clear, right?
The film will feature “spectacular nature photography, immersive in-theater effects, and space sequences created by none other than Industrial Light & Magic (which provided the cinematic foundation for the Star Wars franchise),” to deliver an impactful environmental message.
Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along
And last but not least, the NEW Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along is also opening up in the France Pavilion at Epcot on January 17th.
