After the longest closure in Disney World history, the parks have now reopened to guests.
Upon reopening, the parks implemented a number of new safety measures for the health of both guests and Cast Members. These changes include reduced park capacity, Disney Park Pass reservations required for entry, face masks required for all Cast Members and guests age two and older, social distancing measures, and more.
But, despite the precautions Disney has put in place, there have still been concerns raised over the reopening of the parks. These worries have been amplified given the rising case numbers in Florida, which have led the state to roll back some reopenings as we saw with the shuttering of bars back in June.
Given the ever-evolving nature of the situation, we wanted to know how our readers feel about heading to Disney World with their families. So, we asked our Instagram followers, “Would you feel comfortable bringing your kids to Disney World right now?”
And our readers were quick to send in their responses! Of the first 708 people who responded, 283 said yes, they would bring their kids to Disney World right now, and 425 said no. Here’s a visual breakdown of the responses!
Let’s take a closer look at some of the common reasons our readers gave behind their answers.
“Yes, I would take my kids to Disney World right now.”
Of our readers who responded, 40% said yes, they would take their kids to Disney World right now.
Several people mentioned that they have been impressed by the amount of health and safety precautions Disney is taking. “Yes, I trust Disney is doing the right things and I can add extra protection for my child.” Some readers also called out specific safety measures that made them feel more secure, like required masks and social distancing measures.
Other readers also pointed out that they would feel safer traveling to Disney World than other places — whether on vacation or day-to-day activities. “Yes, I’m sure it’s safer at Disney than a grocery store. They don’t mess around.”
Have you seen the recent updates to the mask policy at Disney World?
“No, I would not take my kids to Disney World right now.”
On the other hand, 60% said no, they wouldn’t take their kids to Disney World right now.
Many people in this group mentioned the increased number of cases in the state, and some also pointed out that while the parks are taking precautions, other places around the area aren’t as diligent. “Not right now with all the cases in Florida. I’d feel safe in the park, but not getting there.”
Others also added that the temporary suspension of some of the entertainment around the parks would make the trip less fun for their children. “Nope and they don’t want to go right now anyway since character meets and fireworks aren’t happening.”
Some were concerned for children who had preexisting conditions or were immunocomprimised. “No. My son has severe asthma.”
And for some, while the new precautions do make them feel safer, they’re worried that the kiddos could struggle with them. “I feel safe but my son is three and won’t keep his mask on so we rescheduled.”
We even had several followers note that they would feel safe going personally, but they wouldn’t be comfortable bringing their kids in the current situation.
We’ve spent lots of time wearing face masks in Disney World — here are the most comfortable ones we’ve found!
So, while a number of our readers said they would bring their kids to Disney World right now, the majority said they are holding off for the moment. We’ll continue to head out to the parks to see how things are progressing — so be sure to stay tuned for more coverage of the reopened parks so you can make the right decision for your family!

We recently visited Animal Kingdom with our toddler and we felt that Disney had done everything in their power to keep everyone safe and we appreciated their efforts. However, park guests where NOT doing what they should and it made us uncomfortable. People were standing too close to us, crowding in groups, taking masks off and walking too close. Not sure any of that is Disney’s fault, but the general public can’t be trusted. We stayed for an hour, then decided it wasn’t for us. Considering canceling our passes. Again, through NO fault of Disney. I wish people would help the cause rather than be irresponsible.

We just spent a week in WDW with our three kids ages 8, 5 and 2 and it was wonderful! Since our kids are young and normally go to bed early, the lack of fireworks and reduced park hours actually worked really well for us. Since there are so few people and wait times were so low we were able to do everything we wanted. And if our kids really loved a ride we could just get right back on and do it as many times as they wanted! We honestly saw more characters than we normally would because we don’t usually do meet and greets. All around a fantastic experience and we felt very safe. My kids won’t understand having to wait in lines next time we go! 🙂

So we just finished our week at WDW and I’ll have to say I felt safer there than I do at our local Walmart! Most everyone behaved themselves and everything for the most part was groovy. The only hiccup we encountered was Saturday (our last day) the Bus Cast Members were fairly cavalier about social distancing and just let guests sort it out themselves….no bueno!

I would be afraid of my kids overheating in the Florida weather with mask wearing. I feel like the parks are safe, just not ok with the mask policy therefore I would probably pass on Disney world at the moment.

I was at Magic Kingdom in Friday 6/24. I have never felt more safe than that that. It was not crowed. The staff is extremely friendly. They helped me to figure out how to order my meal in the new App. The lines move very quickly and getting in was quick too. They take your temperature and scan your bags with new scanners. Please go and have a Magical Day !!
Valerie says
No. Not because of fear but because it’s entirely too much money to spend to not get the Disney experience. We had a trip planned but Disney opened the day we were scheduled to check out. However, I was planning to cancel because of the guidelines and restrictions.

Last week would have been our second vacation week at WDW; we were supposed to check out and drive home Friday. After a quick family chat in March when everything broke loose, we agreed to cancel our trip. We’re glad we did. It’s just not safe right now. We have really missed our every-other-year WDW trip! But we made the right choice. Now we’re hoping that things settle down enough for us to come back in 2021.

Spent last week in Disney Springs, riding buses and Skyliner to visit and lunch at some of the reopened resorts, and went to Magic Kingdom one day. With hand sanitizer stations at nearly every entrance/exit to rides, shops, restaurants, we felt sure it was all less germ-y than any other public place we’ve been this summer. People did fine keeping distance on emptier weekdays. Saturday was a lot more crowded and close-contact, but still felt “safe.” My 6 yr. old loved wearing her heart covered mask- from our GA Kroger grocery store, and we didn’t mind it in the heat too much with them on. Disney has lots of fans and lines with A/C! We preferred the stiffer cotton masks in the heat and humidity as opposed to the softer, thicker ones (received a free 5-pack of thicker type at Florida Welcome Center rest area instead of the usual o.j. but preferred stiff cotton) or disposable ones. Not sure about the silky, thin ones, but it stretched out quickly on my child and kept falling below her nose. Great trip since light crowds and extra cleaning going on everywhere! I’d do it again if given the chance!

Forgot to mention that every ride except the train and People Mover in Magic Kingdom were open on our day last week. We caught a cavalcade of characters in vehicles on Main Street midday and saw the Country Bears on the balcony outside their show. Well worth our time and money, especially with nearly no lines wherever we went!

Disney World is probably safer then Walmart but I wouldn’t want my 5 year old to wear a mask in the Florida heat and agree with others that with the cost of Disney World I want the full Disney experience and I feel my kids deserve that too. But even with people standing close to each other or in groups (cause they probably know each other so don’t be quick to judge) I would still feel safer in Disney World then most places but mask and cost is the reason I wouldn’t bring my kids right now.

We have always felt safe at all the Disney parks. We aren’t worried or afraid of being in the parks.! So we have cancelled going for now because , the family wants to experience Magic Kindom and all the parks we love without the masks or worrying about being too close to other people! We will wait. However long that maybe nobody knows.

We just got back from Disney World and visited all 4 parks.
I would not recommend going. I thought it would be ok not having a parade or fireworks and it would have been if that was were it stopped.
There was too many rides and attractions that weren’t operating that could and should have been.
There wasn’t any logical reasons why the Bugs Life show was still showing but Lion King was not. Or why the on screen classic Mickey Mouse movies were running but The Little Mermaid wasn’t.
It was like this all through the parks. The excuse we kept hearing continually it was for Safety due to Covid or it was Technical difficulties.
After hearing that throughout every park everyday, people weren’t just walking away shaking their heads, they were walking away mad.
I had to constantly explain to my 6 year old why things that should have been open weren’t.
We expected some things to be closed but if we knew what things were going to be closed in addition to what we already expected we would have cancelled until next year.
That trip was way too expensive to get what we did and what we didn’t. I think everyone that still comes this year deserves a huge refund.
If i had known then what i know now i would have asked for a refund. I will also not recommend anyone coming until the parks are exactly what people expect.
Brandon says
I have absolutely NO fears of visiting the park.
The reason I would NOT go right now is because they are providing less than half of the experience while still charging FULL price for admission and stays at the hotels.
I will not be visiting with my family again until this garbage is done with.
Roz says
Planning to go middle of August. A bit anxious about it but we have faith and we will take extra precautions as well. If anyone gets too close we will ask them to please step back a bit for their safety and for ours. We plan to go as hands off as possible. Order food online , bring our own water and snacks and use just plain Ole common sense. A little apprehensive about the mask and hot weather but we’re from Louisiana and we’re use to it. We’ll see how it goes 😷😷😷
Teri says
My family and I are heading over to Disney 7/31 through 8/5. While I live here in Florida I have no fear of going to the parks. While I am disappointed with not having character meet and greets along with the fireworks it will be a great opportunity to enjoy the hotel and family time without running from park to park especially with it being summer. Definitely feel safer in the park than at a Walmart.
Jim says
No. Not because of virus or increasing cases, but with all the new restrictions the magic wouldn’t be there. Not going to waste our money for 1/3 of the Disney magic.. When they out grow this fear we’ll be 1st in line..
Joe James says
Does Kim Peek know that The Lion King show and The Little Mermaid both involve real life, human actors/performers? That’s a LOT different than an animatronic bug or a celluloid mouse. One can catch Covid-19, the others can’t.
Kathy says
Is Disney enforcing the mask and social distancing requirements? If so, how? If not, it would be too risky for those that are. Nothing worse than you’re wearing a mask and social distancing and doing the right thing, to have others disrespect you and your family.
Lane says
We are absolutely planning on going and taking our 2 year old grandchild. Number one, the likelihood of them getting the virus is very low. Secondly, Disney has taken every precaution possible. Our granddaughter first learned about hand sanitizer when we were there in March of this year and she is now a pro.
The only drawback is trying to reign in my own expectations. I have no problem with Disney discontinuing their practice of cramming everyone in like sardines, that was never healthy, but to allow their cast members to police the park goers in an attempt to “protect others” may be one straw too many. Heat stroke, dehydration and increased anxiety are all very real dangers that come with mask policies that are too strict.
We’re excited and truly hopeful. Full of cautious optimism.
Sam says
I don’t have kids-I wish I did.
But I’d pass-too much money to be facing reality walking around. The whole point of the parks was to distract from the every day. People wearing masks as they should-the magic is gone. Disney has thought it all through from a safety POV but you can’t manufacture magic at least for the next few years.
Liz says
Hi, l love your surveys. Buuuut can you please swap the yes and no to match the sides they come up on the pie? It gives me mini anxiety. 😉
Mimi-Mouse says
It has been 2 weeks since our 5-day trip to Disney. We are virus-free. We felt safe in Disney. Everyone was wearing their masks. My toddler and 9 month old had a great time. My toddler didn’t complain about his mask once. We went very prepared (I took my time ocking for 2 months, packing multiple clip on fans and neck fans and umbrellas, they saved our lives with the heat. Though we all got used to it. We also packed disinfectant wipes to wipe down handrails on rides and I even mopped my hotel floor. We took ALOT of precautions. I am SO glad I booked it when I did. We are going again in 2 weeks and in October, November, January. And maybe even one night in December. We have all of our lives to visit characters and watch fireworks. Enjoy the parks for what they are right now. I didn’t feel like I was missing a thing. Don’t feel comfortable? Great, less people to deal with at the park lol. 👋
