A MAJOR Disney transportation option is currently unavailable.

Grand Floridian Monorail Station

While at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort Monorail Station today to head on over to Magic Kingdom, we were evacuated from the platform as BOTH monorail lines went down. Here’s what we know.

The resort loop monorail arrived at the station just like it usually does. We waited for some time, but guests were never invited to board.

Instead, a Cast Member came down the line to tell us that the monorail would be unavailable at this time and that we would be evacuated from the station and directed to alternate transportation.

From there, Cast Members evacuated everyone from the platform.

Once outside, we noticed that the express monorail had stopped at the station too and Cast Members were informing guests that all monorail lines were currently unavailable.

We’re not sure the reason for the closure. Cast Members were citing “technical difficulties.”

Though the monorails were still stopped when we left Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, we did notice an empty express monorail pass us a few minutes later at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.

UPDATE! Both monorail loop lines are back up and running this afternoon! We were able to hop aboard one after 3PM.

The two monorail lines on the main Disney World monorail loop have been the only lines available since Disney World reopened last July. The EPCOT monorail line has remained closed.

With the return of park hopping at the beginning of the year, some park-to-park transportation (mainly buses) did return. Still, the monorail has been limited to just the monorail loop.

The monorail is one of several ways to access the Magic Kingdom from the Transportation and Ticket Center, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, and Disney’s Contemporary Resort.

The monorail station at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is currently closed as the hotel receives a refurbishment and updated Moana theme.

Guests staying at the loop hotels can either walk to the Transportation and Ticket Center or straight to Magic Kingdom in lieu of the monorail. Grand Floridian even has a brand new walkway that leads right to the park!
