A new Indiana Jones ride is replacing DINOSAUR in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. While Disney has already announced that this will be a brand-new ride and story, we haven’t received many more details than that.
There is already an Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland Park which has an almost identical ride system and track to DINOSAUR at Disney World. However, Disney promised that the ride would not be an exact copy in Disney World, and we just got MORE details about what to expect with the DINOSAUR retheme in Disney’s Animal Kingdom!
We just got some HUGE news from Disney! While we knew Indiana Jones was coming to Animal Kingdom, we just found out more details on what the retheme entails. Previously, all Disney had released was that the Indiana Jones ride will feature a brand-new story.
As described by Disney, the attraction will follow “the man with the hat” during a time when he has “recently discovered a perfectly preserved Maya temple, and that can only mean one thing: it’s time to explore it. He’s heard rumors about a mythical creature deep within the temple — and he’s got to see it for himself. So, he brings us along on the adventure… but will there be snakes? We’ll just have to wait and see.”
Now we know even more! Disney has officially announced that the name of the attraction in Animal Kingdom will be Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent!
It was also revealed that Disney Legend Harrison Ford is the actual model for the next Indiana Jones animatronic, and Ford himself confirmed in a message to the crowd that this is the first time he’ll be the face seen on a Disney attraction anywhere in the world.
As for the inspiration behind the name and storyline, it was explained that in Mayan mythology, the entrance to the underworld is protected by a giant serpent. The ride will feature an original story with a “confrontation at the end that is jaw-dropping in every way.” The story takes place in 1950 before Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. As Indy gets close to the Mayan artifact he’s seeking, he gets sucked into a portal to the underworld, kicking off an all-out chase to escape before time runs out. He’ll face all kinds of dangers, including bats, scorpions, and flames.
Disney released a new model of the mythical Jade Serpent, the villain of the attraction. We get why Indy is scared of snakes now, because this thing is massive. Look at the person underneath it for scale! Just this snake’s eyeball will be the size of our head!
We also got a new model of the Mayan temple’s exterior. Since this is a refurbishment of the Dino Institute building, we’ll likely enter through a side door that isn’t depicted, and the concept art backs it up with no one walking on the stairs. But we really wish we could just walk right through that archway like Indy!
The new Indiana Jones ride will be a part of the rethemed Tropical Americas land called Pueblo Esperanza. This land is replacing DinoLand, U.S.A. and will also feature an Encanto ride. This new land is expected to make its debut in 2027.
We are excited to learn more about what is coming to Pueblo Esperanza, and we will be sure to keep you updated as we learn more. Stay tuned to DFB for all your Disney World news!
