Some exciting new tech is on its way to Disney World!
We’ve seen quite a few changes to technology like MagicBands! They’re no longer free to Disney resort guests, who can opt to get a Key to the World card instead. And soon, guests will have a third way to manage their vacation: the brand-new MagicMobile service.
The MagicMobile service offers contactless access to the MagicBand’s features, straight from your smart device! You’ll be able to add a MagicMobile pass to your digital wallet, which you can tap at access points.
Of course, MagicBands aren’t going obsolete! You can still rep your favorite characters, rides, and more around your wrist. You can even opt to alternate between using your MagicBand and the MagicMobile service throughout your visit.
Your MagicMobile pass will be created and managed through your My Disney Experience app, which you’ll still use for online check-in services. And don’t worry! If all this tech-y stuff isn’t for you, the Key to the World cards will still be available at your resort front desk.
If you choose to upgrade your digital Disney experience, the MagicMobile service will launch in phases starting later this year. It will roll out on Apple devices first (yes, that includes your Apple Watch!), to be followed with other smart devices. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more about these exciting new features. Basically this only replaces the original MagicBand since it doesn’t sound like they’ll use phones for long range readers? I’ll be interested to see how this works out! If you’ll need to open up the app on your phone first or whatnot

I imagine what will happen on IPhone is that the app will always be running allowing them to track you. It will probably have new terms and conditions in order for you to use your phone for this feature.
Maybe like the weather apps work?
