If Disney’s going for the Guinness World Record for most construction going on at one time, well, let’s just say we’d put them in the running!
Right now, there’s construction going on at EPCOT as part of that park’s transformation, work being done on the TRON coaster in Magic Kingdom, new decorations being added to Cinderella Castle, lots of construction happening over at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, and MORE!! Construction has also now begun at Disney’s Contemporary Resort as select guest rooms at the hotel get some refurbishment and the inside of the hotel is looking…interesting.
Earlier this year we shared that Disney’s Contemporary Resort would undergo refurbishment in the Main Tower Guest rooms starting in April. The Disney website notes that while some Main Tower Guest rooms may be unavailable during this refurbishment, most resort areas and amenities will still be available to guests.
So, today we made our way over to the Contemporary to see what was going on.
Normally, when you either take a monorail or head up to the Grand Canyon Concourse area in the Contemporary, you can look up at the hallways and doors to the rooms on the floors up above.
But today, we saw that construction had begun in these Main Tower Guest rooms and things were looking VERY different. The photo below is how things would typically look.
And here’s what this space looks like now. WELL, THAT’S A LOOK.
As you can see, there are construction scrims covering the various hallways and room areas on many of the floors on one side of the Main Tower.
We can’t quite see what’s going on behind those scrims, but it seems like work is truly underway on these room refurbishments. Upstairs, tarp has been set up at some elevator landings as construction takes place behind it.
Disney has not yet shared exactly what these room refurbishments will involve, or what the rooms will look like once the refurbishments are all done. But, we’re on the lookout for more information and will let you know what we spot anything new.
While the view isn’t too pretty right now, the main thing you should keep in mind if you’re staying here is the noise. Due to the open nature of the hotel, the construction sounds are loud. And they aren’t too pleasant if you’re planning on a relaxing day at your resort!

Good Morning.
Oh no! My husband and I have just paid in full, our 35th anniversary trip at the Bay Lake towers. Will the construction effect the noise level there as well? Got the insurance. Should I change to somewhere else? Help!
DFB Sarah says
Rebecca, you are likely to experience the noise if you venture to the main building for dining or shopping, but as far as we know, you should be okay in Bay Lake Tower.

My wife & I recently stayed at the Contemporary. This was our third stay there and we were very disappointed about the construction barriers/scrims, no ice machine on our floor, the noise & water interruption issues. They shouldn’t be renovating to this extent while people are staying!
Joy says
We will be staying there in June…Garden Wing…. do you know if the water area/pool/amenities will be affected by the construction as well? Debating on if we need to change hotels. What is it compared to Coronado Springs…they have availability the same time/days we’re already booked for but never been so wondering the comparison and if it’s worth it to change our reservation or not.
