Don’t ya just hate when things in Disney World are CLOSED?
We do, too! Especially when there are super long closures in the parks. We miss climbing Expedition Everest in Animal Kingdom, as it’s been closed since early January. We also miss the Walt Disney World Railroad, which has been closed in Magic Kingdom for over 3 YEARS. But, today, we saw something that might mean the train will return soon!
We spotted the TRAIN testing today on the Walt Disney World Railroad in Magic Kingdom!

The testing was happening over at the Fantasyland station. The train has been out of commission since 2018 due to TRON construction over in Tomorrowland. And, we actually did see it being tested in early February, too!
But, while the railroad has been closed, work has been done on the train! The Number 1 Engine has been completely refurbished, we learned during Destination D23 late last year.
We still don’t know when exactly the train will be open for business again, but hopefully it will be sooner rather than later. We DID see ride testing happening over at TRON today too, so the project is coming along!
We’ll make sure to keep you informed if we learn about more happening with the train, so stay tuned to DFB for more Disney World news and updates.

As the track ends at Fantasyland Station pending the completion of the section through TRON into Space Mountain pass, the train has the only option to roll back to the spur / switch into the rail yard or continue counterclockwise to the Main Entrance Station. WDWRR trains in normal operation move forward in a clockwise direction.
How happy I will be to see our favorite railroad back in service, soon, soon, please!
Totally agree with Otis. It would have to go backwards.
