Many things have been returning to Disney World over the past several months, like restaurants, entertainment, character meet and greets, and more.
Select events are also starting to come back, like Moonlight Magic. The first Moonlight Magic event returned to EPCOT last night for Disney Vacation Club Members, so come with us to check it out!
Moonlight Magic is a special event where DVC Members can visit the Disney World parks after hours with complimentary admission. During this time, guests can expect to have shorter-than-usual wait times for select attractions, Disney character sightings, reimagined entertainment, and complimentary special treats.
The event at EPCOT last night was from 10PM to 1AM, but we showed up before the event to go into the park. Note that if you want to visit the park before the event starts, you DO have to have park admission and a reservation. If you wait until the event starts, you do not. Here’s a look at which entertainment and attractions were available during the event.
Along with this info sheet, we also were given 3 vouchers to use for food and drinks. The only food we could get without the coupons were the unlimited Mickey Premium Bars and Strawberry Bars. Everything else, like bottled water and soda, as well as Mickey Ice Cream Sandwiches, required us to use a voucher.
Take a look at the locations where you can use these vouchers:
Before the event started, we could use our vouchers at the EPCOT Flower and Garden Festival booths if an item was market with the Disney Dining Plan symbol. These info sheets also showed what other dining locations would be open.
And, the info sheets mentioned a popcorn bucket that was exclusive to the event. This did cost one of our vouchers, and we had to wait in a VERY long line to get ours once the event began. We think this probably could’ve been avoided if they had just given out the popcorn buckets right when you checked in for the event!
You also had to wait in this long popcorn line to grab other items like the bottled drinks or ice cream sandwiches. Instead of walking by and just grabbing the complimentary items like you used to be able to do at these events, Cast Members were stapling each receipt to the vouchers once you used them, which took up a lot of extra time and contributed to the long lines.
And, we only saw one cart giving out the unlimited Mickey Premium Bars and Strawberry Bars during the event. None of the snack carts you usually find in EPCOT were open except for the regular popcorn stands. Overall, it seemed like Cast Members couldn’t keep up with the way the event was set up, so hopefully that will be worked out for future events!
As for what was open, the World Showcase was closed from China to France, except for Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure remaining open. The U.K. and Canada were open, but they only had characters available to see and Canada had some live music.
Mexico also had characters, and Frozen Ever After was open in Norway, along with Kringla Bakeri og Kafe. Sunshine Seasons was open over in The Land Pavilion, but the snack shelves were empty, so there were limited items available. We also found long lines over here.
As for characters, we saw Honest John and Gideon from Pinocchio…
…Oogie Boogie from The Nightmare Before Christmas…
…the Evil Queen from Snow White…
…and Pain and Panic from Hercules…
We also spotted Lady Tremaine, Anastasia, Drizella, and the Queen of Hearts from a distance at the event.
And, there was a Disney Vacation Club Welcome Home Moment that happened twice during the event — at 11PM and 12AM. The barges used for the Harmonious fireworks in the middle of the World Showcase Lagoon were lit up with the Disney Vacation Club logo and the water features were turned on.
There is another Moonlight Magic happening at EPCOT on March 31st. Then, later this year, there will be events at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on May 24th, June 16th, and July 14th, as well as at Animal Kingdom on July 26th and August 31st.
DVC Members staying at a Disney hotel during these upcoming dates should get an email with a link to register for the events in the future. If you’re not staying at a Disney hotel and still want to attend, event registration will usually open up on a later date (after hotel guests have a chance to register) on the DVC website. These events tend to fill up fast, so it’s not something you should wait on if you want to go!
Registration for the events is required and there is limited availability. You must have a valid Disney Vacation Club Digital Membership Card and a photo ID to check-in. And remember, even though admission to these after-hours events is complimentary, if you want to visit a park before the event, you have to have a park ticket!

Additionally spaceship earth and mission space were supposed to be open but were down all night. Very long lines on the remaining rides, and the popcorn fiasco made for a very disappointing “exclusive” event. The Mickey bar guys and gals had it rollin- take your food and keep on going!
