Salt & Straw in Disney Springs has given us not one, not two, but FIVE treats to try out this month!
Our New Year’s resolution is to work our way through this new menu.
Salt & Straw has debuted a new Dairy-Free Decadence series, full of plant-based snacks to satiate your sweet tooth. These treats swap out dairy for substitutes like oat milk, coconut milk, and other vegan-friendly options.
Salt & Straw has made a pledge to keep 20% of their items dairy-free all year, and these five limited-time flavors are the start! They include:
- Bananas Foster
- Chocolate Sorbet
- Toasted Oat Milk & Cookies
- Peanut Butter Brittle Caramel Fudge
- Red Velvet Cake w/Cream Cheese Frosting
We just had to try some of these items! Starting with the first item on the menu, we ordered a cup of their Bananas Foster ice cream. The banana-infused ice cream was swirled with a banana caramel spiced with rum and molasses. How fancy!
Despite containing a variety of components we found that none of the flavors overpowered the others and this still had a light caramel and banana taste. However, we could tell this isn’t traditional dairy ice cream. It had a distinct taste that wasn’t bad, just different from your typical ice cream. We still suggest trying this out, especially if you are vegan or otherwise dairy-free!
Next up, the Toasted Oat Milk & Cookies flavor was just calling to us, so we had to order some. The base ice cream is a cinnamon spiked vanilla oat milk. They then added chocolate chip cookies along with chunks of ultra-rich chocolate ganache.
We liked the texture the chocolate chip cookies added to this ice cream, and those who like their ice cream with a lot of toppings might want to try this out! Like the Bananas Foster, the oat milk taste was very prominent and we weren’t too fond of the lingering taste after a few bites. The ganache is also overpowering, but if you like a rich chocolate taste, this is the ice cream for you. You can get your own serving of either of these flavors for $6.85 at Salt & Straw.
