Disney is going above and beyond with celebrating its 100th Anniversary in 2023.
We’ve already seen new nighttime shows at Disneyland Resort, park decorations, merchandise collections, and a new ride…and there’s so much more to come! One of the highlights for Disney fans will be the Disney100 traveling exhibits — dedicated to the 100 years of company history. And today, we learned about a very important detail that may tempt you to visit!
There will be two Disney100 exhibits that travel to different cities around the world. The first one starts in Philadelphia, then moves to Chicago, Kansas City, and other spots across the U.S. The second exhibit will kick off its run in Munich, Germany before going to London and then other locations internationally.
According to the New York Times, “Each of the 15,000-square-foot exhibitions will have 250 items on display, with classic Disney as a focus.” But perhaps the thing that may gather the most interest is not a prop…but a hologram of Walt Disney himself.
“As part of its 100th anniversary marketing-palooza, the Walt Disney Company used archival video and artificial intelligence tools to create a lifelike hologram of its founder — a full-size digital avatar that speaks in Walt’s voice and appears as part of interactive exhibitions of Disney artwork, props and costumes that will tour the globe until at least 2028,” said the Times.
Becky Cline, director of the Disney Archives was quoted as saying, “I get goosebumps every time I see it.”
Hundreds of thousands of guests are expected to buy tickets to the exhibit during its tour. It’s likely that Disney is hoping to create a renewed sense of nostalgia with this exhibit, encouraging visitors to remember the joys of Disney films from their childhood. It’s coming at a time when the company needs it most — a possible saving grace amid box office failures for animated films and battles with political figures.
