New snacks are popping up in Disneyland just in time for the release of a new Haunted Mansion movie!
With so much going on in Disneyland, there’s a lot to look forward to! We now have a date on when we can expect the Haunted Mansion holiday overlay to return to the Haunted Mansion ride later this year, and we’re anxiously counting down the opening day to San Fransokyo Square’s opening. All of this excitement has definitely helped us work up an appetite, so we decided to stop in and try a new snack to see if it’s as spine-tingling as it looks!
On a recent trip out to visit Disneyland, we decided to stop into New Orleans Square and see what we could grab as a nice, quick snack. Our search lead us over to the New Orleans Churro Cart, where something interesting caught our eye.
Sitting out on the counter was a new food card advertising the April-December Churro inspired by the Haunted Mansion, and we knew we had to try it! For those that might not be familiar with this tricky name, this is in reference to one of the portraits found in the queue area of the Haunted Mansion ride that mysteriously transitions its subject — Miss April-December — from a beautiful young woman in APRIL written in the top right corner of the portrait, to an old haggard woman in the same dress and pose with DECEMBER eventually in the top right corner instead. Time was NOT on her side!
Now, back to the churro. This snack is a strawberry-favored sugar churro with fresh strawberries. It also is topped with purple cherry sugar and freeze-dried strawberries, then drizzled with donut icing. This snack cost $6.75.
Right away, just reading the description of this churro made our mouths water — and take a look at our churro! It was “to die for!” (Get it?) Donut icing? Yeah, we can’t WAIT to dig in!
This was a sweet little strawberry treat! The sugar didn’t seem to add much flavor, though it did add a hint of sweetness overall. The fresh pieces of strawberry added a sweet and fresh flavor, while the freeze-dried ones tasted more like strawberry candy. We loved that creative combination of freeze-dried and fresh strawberries! The donut frosting added hints of a sweet vanilla taste. Overall, this is a sweet churro with lots of yummy strawberry flavors.
We really enjoyed this one! If you really like strawberries and flavored churros, you should certainly stop for one of these on your next trip to Disneyland. If you’re not a churro fan, or really just don’t like strawberries, it’s best to keep your distance from this one.
