We’ve warned you about that finicky Florida weather.
It’s especially chaotic this time of the year. We’ve seen super cold days, as well as hot days. We’ve also seen a lot of rainy days (if it doesn’t rain at least ONCE on your Disney World trip, are you really in Orlando, Florida?). Although rainy days can put a bit of a dampener (see what we did there?) on your day in the parks, it could also give you the best park day ever. Why? Because rainy days tend to keep crowds away.
It’s been pretty wet the past few days in Disney World, but we’ve noticed that it’s kept things very quiet in the parks. February 17th-19th is a holiday weekend, so we were expecting some large crowds in the parks. On February 17th, we noticed that many people decided to don their raincoats and ponchos to tackle Magic Kingdom. But not as many as we might have expected. All park pass reservations are open for all four parks, too.
However, the shops were FULL of people trying to wait out the rain.
The rain, though, was relentless, so outside, things seemed pretty calm. Even Main Street, U.S.A. was relatively calm.
The rain did let up a little, and by the time we visited Hollywood Studios, there were some more people out and about.
On February 18th, though, we saw even fewer people in the parks. This is one of the shortest Magic Kingdom Monorail lines we’ve seen at the Ticket and Transportation Center in a while.
Magic Kingdom felt like a ghost town when we arrived. Look at how few people are hanging around Cinderella Castle!
Ride wait times were low this morning, too. Pirates of the Caribbean only had a 10-minute wait — that’s basically a walk-on ride right now.
Even later, the rain seems to have kept a lot of people indoors.
We have to be honest; we love days like this in Disney World, especially when we don’t expect it. We’re not sure where the holiday weekend crowds are, but we’re enjoying the calm that the rain brings to the parks.

We were there for an MLK weekend, many years ago, and the crowds were sparse. Cast members kept apologizing for the rain and we kept responding: “What rain?”
That’s nice to see space to be able to just walk around Disney. We were there from 2/7-2/17 and between the massive groups of cheerleaders stepping in front of you then the 20 more to keep up with their leader was horrible, but then we had the pleasure of experiencing another massive takeover by a certain group of people who not only were walking into you, but were just plain rude- leaving their trash behind them, letting their young ones climb on structures that were clearly roped off, and then running to “ catch up with family members” in line for a ride to find 8 more people budding ahead of you multiple times. It was really not pleasant.
Perspective can definitely make or break your trip! I love that you didn’t let a little rain get in your way of having a great time!
We had the final two days of our stay over this wet weekend, and spent the early and late part of each in MK, but retiring back to our hotel mid afternoon to avoid the busiest times and to dry out! The evenings in particular were great though, apart from the shower-in-the-face effect on Seven Dwarves on Saturday, helped by the extended hours until 11pm and the rain making it really quiet. Managed 14 rides – and a dinner break – from around e7pm to 11pm on Saturday including a prebooked Tron, BTM x3, Philharmagic x2, Pirates, Peter Pan, Space Mountain x2, which I didn’t think was bad! Sunday evening finished dry and empty which was even better. But with the warmth earlier in the week we also had 2 days of our 8-night vacation at Blizzard Beach.
