Big change is on the horizon at Disney World, and we’re really excited to see what the future has in store!
Whether it’s theme park land retheming or the opening of brand-new rides, Disney World finds countless ways to keep us on our toes. Such is the case with one of its latest announcements, the reimagining of the popular EPCOT attraction, Test Track. While specific details are hard to come by, Disney has left a few breadcrumbs that hint at the future of this incredible ride.
Recently, Disney confirmed that Test Track would close for its reimagining on June 17th, 2024. The company did not specify how long work on the ride would take, but it did release some concept art and a few hints about what we can expect when the ride reopens. Let’s take a look!
1. The ride will still be sponsored by Chevrolet
Not just a clue, but a promise, when the reimaging was announced in 2023, Disney said that its “longstanding” partnership with Chevrolet would continue. New concept art verified this with Chevrolet representation front and center. Disney has partnered with Chevrolet since the current version of the ride was opened in 2012, but Chevy’s parent company — General Motors — has been the sponsor of this pavilion since it was World of Motion on EPCOT’s opening day in 1982. In fact, Disney Imagineers are working “along with teams from Chevrolet are reaching back into history for inspiration,” for this reimaging. Which leads to our next clue…
2. The reimaging will pull from World of Motion
Disney stated that its partnership with Chevrolet will look to bring the “spirit of optimism” from World of Motion to the next iteration of Test Track. World of Motion, sponsored by GM, was an EPCOT opening day attraction that “took visitors on a time travel journey through the history of transportation.” Utilizing an Omnimover system, this attraction took guests through scenes that depicted the innovation of transportation over time. At the end of the ride, visitors would then get a good look at the cars of the future.
Similar to Magic Kingdom’s Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress and EPCOT’s Spaceship Earth, it can be inferred that the new Test Track will emphasize vehicular progress and the bright future of transportation.
3. The ride will keep its outdoor track
Based on the concept art Disney released, we can see some notable changes to the exterior, such as the current large canopy disappearing. However, if you look closely, you can also see the outdoor portion of the track still intact on the right side.
While this is only concept art and is very likely to change with the finished product, it does demonstrate that the new iteration of Test Track intends to maintain its outdoor section — at least for now. Whether or not that section of the ride is the same or similar to its previous version is still unknown, but the implication that the exterior track of the building won’t change dramatically may indicate that the actual track itself MIGHT NOT see a total overhaul.
4. New ride vehicles
At Destination D23 last year, Disney gave us the first concept art for the new Test Track ride vehicles. Perhaps an homage to newer electric vehicles, these newer automobile-inspired ride vehicles aren’t a total departure from the current Test Track cars, but could differ in a few ways.
Perhaps these new vehicles really pull from World of Motion to adopt the Omnivehicle or the rotational capabilities of the ride vehicles for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind! instead. Perhaps the new vehicles will simply have a new design that serves the same function, like the ride vehicles for Disney California Adventure’s Radiator Springs Racers. The tricky part is not knowing what the new attraction scenes will require, so at this point, the type of ride vehicle is only speculative.
Reading into the clues and speculating is a lot of fun, but we honestly can’t wait for Disney to reveal more information about the latest version of Test Track! For all Test Track, EPCOT, and Disney World updates, be sure to stay posted here at DFB to get all the latest news!

Just hope they don’t make it worse like Imagination, Frozen, or Mickey & Minnie’s train ride.

The Test Track/Factory version was by far the best effort. It was ground breaking in its day. The two later re-boots fell far short of guest expectations.

Does anyone know if the GM employees lounge area of Test Trak will still be open to guests during renovations of the ride?

Probably the biggest question and issue at hand is, how many years and or decades will this revision take? Disney, in general isn’t exactly known for getting things done in a timely or efficient manner!
All anyone really can count on, is the fact that the ride rehabilitation is complete, when the public can finally get through the gate!
