Big changes are coming to Disney World: Magic Kingdom is getting a HUGE expansion and new land. Animal Kingdom is getting a new land. Hollywood Studios is getting a new land. There are SO many updates in the works.
However, the next time you FLY to Disney World, you might notice some changes as soon as you flight lands at Orlando International Airport. That’s because a lot of updates are coming to the airport, including upgrades to Terminals A and B (the terminals most of us fly into and out of). You’ll start seeing construction in these terminals THIS YEAR.
According to The Orlando Business Journal, Orlando International Airport will soon start work on upgrades to Terminals A and B as part of a project that will cost more than $235 million. These renovations will begin soon, as in 2025, beginning with upgrades to bathrooms airside (beyond security checkpoints) that will expand their capacity. The work is expected to be finished in 2027.
The project also includes interior upgrades in the airside area that serves gates 1–59. This includes upgrades to seating, signage, gate counters, and lighting. This construction is expected to start in 2026, with most of the work completed in 2027.
Terminals A and B will also get some interiors refreshed landside (before security checkpoints). This includes the areas around baggage claim and rental car services. The changes will include new rental car counters, seating, and signage. Lighting improvements are also part of the plan. Construction is expected to begin in 2026 and be finished in 2028.
These changes are in addition to some big concession updates coming to the airport, which will include spaces for new restaurants, including some local favorites. Those updates are expected to start mid-2025, with a second round of concession partners being considered this summer and a third round later in the year.
A new parking guidance system is also coming to the airport that will signal open spaces in the airport’s garages. Work on that will begin in mid-2025, with the new system debuting in 2027. It will work similarly to what you see in Disney Springs, where digital boards display how many spots are left in a given garage as well as red and green lights above spots so you know which ones are empty or occupied.
Work is ongoing for a project to expand Terminal C, which will include gates for eight new planes, a pedestrian bridge, and moving walkways — you’ll see some of those changes in 2025.
Longer-term projects are also in the works, including a consolidated rental car facility, an upgrade to the baggage system, and a replacement of the people mover system to gates 70-129, expected to be complete by 2028.
We’ll keep an eye out for more updates, so stay tuned to DFB for more.
