In case you missed it, Disney is currently developing its first-ever Villains Land! It will be located in the Magic Kingdom, and fans absolutely lost their minds when it was first announced at D23 in 2024.

Since then, we have seen work begin on the land, and Disney has even teased some of the details coming to the land. As we eagerly await new details, rumors have started circulating online that Disney has “scrapped” Villains Land, but what does that actually mean? We’re breaking it down here.
If you’re seriously into Disney, you might be on the side of the internet where different rumors, theories, and more circulate. We love theorizing and hearing what might be coming to Disney, but lately, we’ve been seeing people worry that Disney is scraping the upcoming Villains Land. What’s really interesting is that there might be some truth to that, but not in the way that you’re thinking.

Villains Land is coming to Magic Kingdom!
Disney has remained pretty tight-lipped about what we can expect over in Villains Land, and that’s very intentional. While rumors continue to swirl about the land’s fate, the truth is that Disney is still in early development for the land. They have a huge legacy to live up to, especially when it comes to the Disney theme parks and villains brand combined. We have no doubt that Disney is trying to deliver the best of the best on all of their upcoming projects, especially the Villains Land.

It’s no secret that expectations from Disney fans are high, and Josh D’Amaro, Disney’s current Experiences Chairman and upcoming CEO, has said this land will be “pushing creative boundaries” on “an incredibly twisted grand scale.” D’Amaro or Iger (or whoever is calling the theme park shots right now) is reportedly pushing the team to think bigger, which has led to the rumors and basis of the “scrapped” rumors. Supposedly, the initial plans for the lands are being reconsidered for bigger ideas.
Len Testa, TouringPlans president and an important voice in the Disney fan community, posted on the WDWMagic Forums. Here is Testa’s full message:
This is no cause for concern! This is pretty standard for Disney projects, and we would argue that this is watching creative genius at its finest. If you’re still not sure, look at previous projects. In the past, Disney started sharing a lot of their “Blue Sky Ideas,” which were potential projects in the works, to get feedback from fans. At one point, Disney considered replacing DinoLand with Moana or even Zootopia attractions. We know now that this area is becoming a Tropical Americas-themed land that will include attractions inspired by Encanto and Indiana Jones.

It’s expected that Disney will change their plans along the way to truly raise the bar and overachieve compared to our expectations. This is Disney after all! They have created the bar, so they will continue to raise it high. While the concept of Villains Land ideas getting scrapped might sound concerning, it really shouldn’t be.

This is likely happening throughout all of Disney’s projects right now. From Pueblo Esperanza and Monstropolis in Disney World to Avengers Campus and the upcoming Coco attraction in Disneyland, there are lots of changes going on within these projects that we won’t even know about. This is how good ideas get even better when it comes to creatives dreaming up what might feel impossible.

Concept art will change, big ideas will shift. That’s to be expected during times like these! We would say that you should expect a few more “scrapped” ideas before any of these new lands open throughout the theme parks. At the time of writing, Disney hasn’t shared an opening timeline for Villains Land, and it might be so that they can make it even bigger and more villainous.
