We all have celebrities that are so beloved that we fear the day when we receive bad news about them growing ill or passing. In fact, if we could, we would put all those beloved stars in a plastic bubble where they could be safe forever (Dick Van Dyke, we’re looking at you).

So when a company like Disney posts a photo of an older celebrity that we know and love, Julie Andrews, with a caption that reads “Courage, resilience, grace,” we got VERY upset for a moment before we realized that the announcement is actually about a documentary coming to Disney+ instead.

Don Iwerks, Disney Legend, Has Passed Away at Age 96

It’s with heavy hearts that we share that Disney Legend Don Iwerks, known for being a pioneer in the development of multiple camera, projection, and other technical systems for Disney parks and films, has passed away at the age of 96 on July 9th.

There are some celebrities that aren’t just Disney Legends, but also legends in the minds of anyone who has ever come across their work.

In fact, some celebrities spark so much joy that you can’t help but smile when you think about them because they’ve made that much of a significant impact on you. Well, for us, one of those celebrities is the ICONIC Dick Van Dyke, who just happens to be celebrating a HUGE milestone today: the Disney Legend just turned 99 years old.

We Know What Everyone Will Be Watching on November 1st on Disney+!

It’s a great time to be a Star Wars fan. Star Wars is literally everywhere now. We’ve had SO many more movies released, with more to come, new TV shows, new books, new comics, and even new video games. We’ve even got Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in two Disney Parks when we get the urge to visit a galaxy far, far away.

William “Sully” Sullivan, Former Cast Member and Disney Legend, Has Passed Away

William “Sully” Sullivan, a Disney Legend who worked with The Walt Disney Company for 38 years, passed away on July 16th, 2024. Sullivan was 88 years old.

William Sullivan was born in Fullerton, California. At age 19, Sullivan recalled watching the opening ceremonies for Disneyland on TV. “The following Saturday I went down and applied for a job. Monday I quit Northrop Aircraft, and Tuesday I reported to work as a ticket-taker at the Jungle Cruise,” Sullivan told Disney.

If you take a look around, you’ll see that Imagineers have all kinds of sweet tributes to the people who helped bring Walt Disney’s vision to life. You may see a window on Main Street, U.S.A. with the name of a Disney Legend. You might spot a handprint on the wall of a Disney World attraction. You might even read the names of some FAMOUS celebrities who made their mark on Hollywood (Studios).

Yeah, Disney has gotten pretty good at honoring those who embody the magic of a brilliant Cast Member. In fact, there’s an entire ceremony happening soon (August 11th, to be exact) to induct over a dozen NEW people into the ultra-exclusive “Disney Legends” group. You’ll probably recognize a lot of the names on the 2024 list, and (if you’re like us) you might even think, “It’s about time we call them a Disney Legend” when you see some of the faces on the list.

Disney Shares Tribute to Icon and Legend Glynis Johns

Disney Legend Glynis Johns passed away at 100 years old on Thursday, January 4th, 2024. Her manager confirmed that she died from natural causes.

Johns played a strong feminist known as Winifred Banks in Disney’s 1964 Mary Poppins. Her role as a suffragette would become one of the defining moments in her long, impressive career. In fact, in a tribute to Johns, it was revealed that Walt Disney personally selected her to play Winifred Banks.
