National Streaming Day is May 20th, and Disney is already starting to celebrate. Last year, we got announcements about shows coming to Disney+, trailers, and more. This year, things are already off to a great start — Disney has shared a new deal about its streaming services that you might not be able to pass up!
From the Carousel of Progress to Walt’s ideas on EPCOT, The Walt Disney Company has been interested in technology and innovation from the beginning. Recently, Disney executives spoke at the SVB MoffettNathanson Technology, Media & Telecom Conference and provided updates on everything from Disney+ to the Disney Cruise Line.

Disney has announced that a price increase will hit the ad-free Disney+ service later this year. We also got news about how Hulu and Disney+ content will soon be accessible via the same app (for subscribers of both services), and several hit movies have already arrived on Disney+. But now we’ve got even MORE streaming news.

Disney has become involved in a number of lawsuits recently — from ones related to the battle with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis over Disney’s former Reedy Creek Improvement District to another related to an investor in the Company, and another regarding the Park Pass system. But this latest lawsuit brings some statements from former CEO Bob Chapek (as well as other Disney leaders) front and center.

Disney+ has seen a few price increases and changes over the past few years, most recently with the introduction of the ad-supported tier (versus ad-free) and the price increases that came with those changes. And now it seems more price increases are on the way.

It’s Disney+ Day!
One of which is focusing on improving streaming at Disney+, along with Hulu and ESPN+. During the last company earnings call, we learned that the total number of Disney+ subscribers was 161.8 million. And now that Disney+ has officially launched its ad-supported tier, we have an update on just how Disney’s streaming service is doing.
We’ll admit, we’ve seen some…strange things when it comes to Disney.

We’ll even admit that WE do some odd things at Disney, but the parks are filled with strange, surprising, and unexpected things every day. If you search around on Disney+, you may find some movies or TV shows you never knew existed, but we think this new movie coming to the service soon takes the cake for the weirdest thing we’ve seen on Disney+ so far.
It takes a LOT for viewers to commit to a TV show, especially on streaming services.

Let’s face it, a lot of shows never make the cut and end up getting canceled. That includes Disney+, where we’ve recently seen several shows get the axe, including Big Shot, The Mysterious Benedict Society, and more. Well, ANOTHER Disney+ series will be ending after just one season.

Sure, you can watch a lot of Marvel content on Disney+, including some amazing series and almost the entirety of the movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, the live-action Spider-Man movies, which are technically Sony’s property, have NOT been on the service — at least until now.
Netflix has been making some changes lately to deal with its streaming struggles.

With services like Disney+, Hulu, and HBO Max to compete with, Netflix has had to adjust to try to stay ahead of the game. Last year, the company laid off hundreds of employees, created ad-supported membership tiers, and put into motion a plan to start charging for password sharing. The company has already started to roll out the password-sharing crackdown in international markets, but it looks like US streamers might have a bit more time to take advantage of their friends’ accounts before Netflix takes this perk away.
