Big changes are coming, and they’re hitting fast.
Tom Sawyer Island
We knew this was coming eventually, but the date is official now. On July 7th, three major Magic Kingdom experiences will close permanently: The Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Square Riverboat. And yeah—it’s going to be very quiet in that whole area for a while. Let’s break down what’s closing, why it matters, and what’s taking its place.
We’ve known these Disney World closures were coming, but we didn’t know how soon they would be!

Disney World’s own Cars-themed area is coming, and to make way for Lightning McQueen and friends, Magic Kingdom is getting reworked, and we finally have closing dates.
In case you didn’t know, you’ve really got a ton of options when it comes to dining at Disney World!

To be sure you’ve got your standard theme park fare, but you can also find a wide variety of food — from All-American classics to tastes from the Caribbean and Asia and even more. Now, if you’re in Magic Kingdom, there’s this one spot you might not even know existed and it’s about it shut down permanently, so you know we’ve got to tell you all about it!
Well, friends…even though Lightning McQueen is leaving Hollywood Studios, you’ll see him in a Disney World park again.
