Sometimes, Disney attractions have to close for refurbishment or scheduled maintenance.
Here at DFB, we like to keep you posted on what will be closed at any given time, so you know exactly how to prepare for your Disney trip! So here’s the refurbishment update for Disney World from March 15th through March 21st.
Magic Kingdom Refurbishments
Hall of Presidents
The Hall of Presidents closes temporarily after each newly-elected president takes office, so a new audio-animatronic can be installed. Currently, the show is closed to install an animatronic for President Joe Biden.
It closed in January, and Disney hasn’t yet announced a reopening date. But we’ll keep you posted with any updates we receive!

Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover
The PeopleMover is a Magic Kingdom classic, but it’s been closed for a YEAR now! It initially closed in March 2020, and the reopening date has been pushed back over and over since then.
The ride was supposed to reopen on March 1st, but that date was pushed back to April 3rd. Most recently, we saw a Cast Member PUSHING the PeopleMover along the track, and we honestly don’t know if that’s a good sign or not. We’ll keep you posted with any updates!

Walt Disney World Railroad
The Walt Disney World Railroad has also been closed for a while: over 2 YEARS! Construction on TRON: Lightcycle Run is currently blocking the tracks near Tomorrowland, so the train is unable to make its full circle around the park.
It’ll likely be a while before we can ride the railroad again. We’ll need to see significant progress on that TRON construction so the tracks are clear once again — and that may not happen until 2022! We’ll keep you posted and snap plenty of pictures of the train station in the meantime.

Swiss Family Treehouse
The Swiss Family Treehouse is unavailable for a super quick refurbishment. It closed on March 12th and should be back open on March 26th!
We’ll keep an eye out for any changes or delays, so stay tuned!

Animal Kingdom Refurbishments
Kali River Rapids
Disney’s water rides often close for refurbishment in the winter, when demand is lower in the colder weather! Currently, Kali Rivers Rapids is down for its typical seasonal maintenance.
It closed in January and is set to reopen on April 3rd, 2021.

EPCOT Refurbishments
Rose and Crown Dining Room
Rose and Crown Dining Room closed for refurbishment on February 15th. It’s scheduled to reopen in early spring!
If you really want to eat in EPCOT’s United Kingdom Pavilion right now, stop by Yorkshire County Fish Shop or Rose and Crown Pub instead!

Disney World Resort Refurbishments
We’re getting a big Moana-inspired transformation at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort! We’ve seen new Cast Member costumes and even a first look into the reimagined rooms!
The rest of the resort is getting some work, too. The entrance, lobby, and monorail station are all undergoing construction. These projects are expected to wrap up this summer — you can even grab reservations for the new Moana-themed rooms for July 19th and beyond!
And in the pool area, Kiki Tikis Splash Play Area is also closed for refurb through March 2021.
Another pool is undergoing maintenance, too! The Big Blue Pool at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort is closed for construction but should reopen in early April.
We’ll keep you posted with any changes to that schedule!

Disney seems to take far too long to refurbish and reimagine things. You would think with the depth of creativity and skill that Disney has, pre planning and overnight and weekend work scheduled that are unhampered by guest or weather interruptions, things would move much faster.

Ken, I agree 100%. The People Mover is huge. What in the world can be so wrong that they can’t fix it? Parts obviously but with all their contact with other countries, parts should be easily accessible. I miss the train. And, yes, we have the best weather to work 24/7. And with Covid, I bet so many would jump on working 24/7 (unless they are already). AND thank you to the best BLOG team. I so appreciate your emails and updates.
