We recently told you all about some new Disney World merch!
We’ve seen a few examples of Disney’s mission to become more eco-friendly poppin’ up in the parks, from cool new trash cans to compostable plastic cheese (!!) containers. And now, Disney has a few more reusable pieces of merchandise that you can use around the parks and at home! The line is called the Play, Drink, Repeat and the collection is jam-packed with reusable goodies. So, of course, we had to try some of them out.
Last month, we gave you a peek of one of the items in this collection…and now they’re here! Yup, you can now buy a set of reusable utensils. You’ll get a fork, knife, spoon, and reusable straw (with a brush for cleaning!) in an easy-to-carry foldable pouch.
Now, reusable utensils sound like a great idea, right? After all, you KNOW we’re always trying food around the parks, and this could help us cut down on a lot of waste. But we wanted to make sure this was a good buy for ya, so we tested them out! And even though we bought them at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, we took ’em for a spin at none other than EPCOT, aka THE place to go for snackin’.
We started off at Lotus Blossom Cafe in the China Pavilion, where we ordered a feast, to say the least. We’re talkin’ potstickers, chicken fried rice, and SO much more. We used our chopsticks for a good amount of the meal, but we were able to test the knife out when cutting our potstickers. This is no steak knife, but it was sharp enough to cut our food easily!
We gave our reusable straw a try with our soda! We were big fans, and we were able to clean it off quick ‘n’ easy with the straw brush when we were done. As far as size goes, the straw was pretty average: it fit through the Disney lid easily, but the opening is not as big as that of a plastic straw. So you won’t get quite as much in each sip!
You’ll also want to keep in mind that this is a pretty rubbery straw — it’s not super sturdy like some other reusable options! This may be an issue for straw-chewers, but we didn’t mind at all. Reusable straw = DFB approved! Let’s give the rest of the set a try.
To put the silverware to good use, we hopped over to Farmers Feast at the EPCOT Flower and Garden Festival! This booth has a rotating menu, and — you guessed it — we were here to try some NEW eats.
Those new menu items are Warm Asparagus, Herb-crusted Spring Lamb, and Strawberry Rhubarb Upside-down Cake. We gave the cake a try with our spoon and fork…
…and used the fork for the lamb dish! The prongs on the fork aren’t super pointy, but we had no trouble picking up everything we needed to. We were also able to cut the lamb easily with the knife. Both the utensils are just a little more dull than normal, but they work just as well!
We’ve gotta tell you — we LOVE this silverware. They’re much more sturdy than the throw-away plastic alternatives! But this does also mean they’re a little thicker, which may not be for everyone.
In fact, we loved this purchase so much that we took them with us the next day! The fork really helped us enjoy that tasty Pulled Pork Mac and Cheese at Beach Club Marketplace. 😉
And if you want to use them for more than 1 meal in a day, you can clean ’em right off in the parks! However, you’ll need to use some form of liquid to do that — you won’t be able to wipe them clean with just a napkin. We opted for a spritz of sanitizer and water and that worked just fine!
We grabbed our set for $19.99 at Riverside Depot in Animal Kingdom, but we’ve spotted them at a few other places around Disney World! You can also snag them online. They make for an environmentally friendly and super convenient purchase — talk about a smart buy you can feel good about!

I would have liked the set to include chop sticks also. It is a pretty set though.
Silver Surfer says
Just came back from a trip to Downtown Disney in Anaheim and can report that these new items are also available at the Disney Home Store there.

I had a question about Reusable Silverware at WDW — I know this set they sell is Melamine, but if I bring in a metal set that I purchased on Amazon, do you think security would have a problem with the knife? I have been going back and forth about this since they’re selling reusable silverware, and yet it’s possible the metal knife could be seen as a “weapon” by security. There is no definite answer from what I can find online. Thoughts?
DFB Sarah says
Lauren, I reached out to one of our reporters, and she’s pretty sure that security would confiscate a reusable knife even if it’s part of a set.

I have to say that if lots of guests start bringing in these reusable utensils, I suspect that there will be longer lines for and bigger crowds in the ladies rooms of guests rinsing them off in the sinks. As a former CM, our custodians will not be happy about all the food remnants in the sinks and on the floors that they’ll have to clean up in addition to everything else they do. You may have wiped your set of utensils off, spritzed them with sanitizer, and put them away in the case…but thousands of others will not be so gracious.
