You know you’re a real Disney fan when…you take special interest in Disney trash cans!

Restaurantosaurus
You may already have the Disney trash can shirt(!!) but a new trash can (or set of cans, we should say) have made their way to Disney World and they’ve got a special purpose!
We spotted these new cans outside of Restaurantosaurus in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. They are a set of three cans — one green, one blue, and one gray.

New Trash Cans
The green can is for compost. Guests can place all cups, food, and service-ware in this one.

The blue can is for recycling. Guests can place bottles, cans, and cartons on this one.

Recycle Can
And finally, the gray can is for trash, which includes packets, wrappers, and packaging.

Trash Can
While we were at Animal Kingdom, we learned that these trash cans just arrived at the park on Sunday and Restaurantosaurus is the only restaurant that has them at the moment.
But, what’s so special about these cans? Well, we were told that Disney is aiming to make more things for itself in the park, and these cans can help. For example, did you know that the chairs at Restaurantosaurus are made out of composted materials? Pretty cool!

We’ll definitely keep an eye out for more changes around the park like this one, and see whether these sets of special cans make their way to more restaurants around Disney World. Stay tuned for more updates from us here at DFB!

Yet the composted can still tells you to put plastic cups and forks into this can. Which leads me to believe that it is all just ending up up in the trash.
All plastics used in Animal Kingdom are compostable.
Hmmm. This is a good idea in theory, but you really shouldn’t compost most of the foods served at Disney.
So Brandon, it’s still being recycled into something useful for all. What’s wrong with that? It’s all a good thing! Think Happy!
When I was there in Nov none of the utensils and cups were plastic – all were a compostable material…..
@brandon – the cups and forks aren’t plastic, they are compostable
Didn’t Disney just change the utensils to biodegradable ones? I am excited for these thoughtful changes the company is making. Makes me feel good to be a fan.
The forks, spoons and cups are NOT plastic…Disney uses compostable corn starch based disposable tableware.
@Brandon, it’s actually quite brilliant as the cups and service-ware are made from a different type of plastic than bottles or other types that can be easily recycled so by having park goers separating them into the biodegradable bin they are presorted and later can easily separated from food scraps using the floating plastic method(like you see in the oceans) or machines/sorting equipment. By having humans presort the plastics it saves them a lot of effort later. Also realize that DW is a mostly closed system so they know in advance what types of plastics they are serving in their restaurants so they know what the SPI numbers are going to be as they bought them in the first place(aside from whatever people bring into parks themselves which is usually the same recycle code for plasticware versus bottles.
Interesting….
Thanks, Barbara. I’ve shared this with the team.
Hmm. I hadn’t heard about the different types of utensils. When did they start that?
They used to have actual Cast Members sort all this stuff out. Just another way for Disney not to hire CM’s back.
