Starting October 1st, 2021, Disney World will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary! But all around Disney World, preparations for the big celebration are already underway.
We’ve seen decorations being added to Cinderella Castle, lights installed on Spaceship Earth, and touches of gold being added to some rides. And now, ahead of the 50th Anniversary, one of the restaurants at Disney’s Contemporary Resort will also be undergoing some refurbishment!
There are a few restaurants at Disney’s Contemporary Resort that you can stop at for a delicious meal. One of those is The Wave…of American Flavors. Right now, you can grab breakfast, lunch, or dinner at The Wave, or you can order some items to go. But soon this spot will be closing for a bit.
According to the Disney website for The Wave, the restaurant will be “unavailable this summer” as it undergoes some refurbishment in time for the 50th Anniversary of Disney World.
Reservations at The Wave will be available until July 15th.
Disney has not yet shared when The Wave will reopen, but only notes that it will be unavailable this summer. We’ll be on the lookout for more updates!
The Wave isn’t the only part of the Contemporary that is undergoing refurbishment though. Right now, many of the guest rooms in the main tower building at the Contemporary are undergoing refurbishment as well.
You can see a number of tarps and construction barriers throughout part of the hotel, and the construction sounds can be LOUD!
It seems the Contemporary is refurbishing various parts of the hotel to really get prepared for the 50th Anniversary.
We’ll continue to keep an eye out for more updates on all of this construction and let you know what we find.

The Wave is my favorite Disney Restaurant. After the Magic Kingdom, it is relaxing and QUIET! Love the 70’s ambiance. The Reubens are perfect.
By the way, I worked at The Haunted Mansion and The Jungle Cruise when the park first opened
