Disney World is constantly updating rides and hotels around the parks, so we do our best to keep you updated on what’s going to be closed for refurbishments during your trip!
We found all the rides and hotels that are scheduled to be closed in August! If you’re heading to Disney World soon, take a look at this list so that you know what to expect!
In August, the only park that has scheduled closures for rides is Disney’s Magic Kingdom.
Magic Kingdom
Hall of Presidents
In the Magic Kingdom, the Hall of Presidents is still closed, and it’s scheduled to be closed through August. Although it’s on the refurbishments calendar throughout all of August and into September, a recent update gave us a first look at the new President Joe Biden animatronic and stated that the ride would be opening in August!
When Disney releases more info on that timeline, we’ll let you know!
Walt Disney World Railroad
Another ride in Magic Kingdom that’s been closed for a while is the Walt Disney World Railroad. It’s been closed because of construction on the upcoming TRON Lightcycle Run ride, which interfered with some of the railroad tracks in Tomorrowland.
We did see some of the coverings over the Main Street Railroad station come down last week, which might be some progress on the refurbishment of the Main Street, U.S.A. station!
The TRON ride isn’t expected to open very soon, though, so we might not see the WDW Railroad opening soon either!
Main Street Confectionery
And speaking of Main Street, U.S.A., the Main Street Confectionery is also scheduled to be closed for all of August due to updates happening inside!
If you’re hoping for a sweet treat in Magic Kingdom, you’ll have to look elsewhere! We’d recommend a sundae at the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor or the waffles and funnel cakes at Sleepy Hollow Refreshments!
That’s it for rides and attractions that are closed in August! Keep in mind that, although no other rides or attractions are scheduled to be closed, some still may be closed at times due to weather or technical problems! We’ll do all we can to keep you updated on what we see in the parks each day!
Now let’s take a look at all the hotels in Disney World that will be closed in August!
Hotels
Disney’s Polynesian Resort
At Disney’s Polynesian Resort, there’s just a little bit of construction left from their big refurbishment this year! We’ve seen updates to the resort’s lobby, new Moana-themed rooms, and the return of the fan-favorite ‘Ohana restaurant located inside! Now all that’s missing is the Polynesian Resort Monorail Station.
The Monorail station is still undergoing refurbishments, and it will not be open in August. There are other transportation options, like buses and walking paths. If you’re hoping to ride the Monorail from the Polynesian, you can head to the Transportation and Ticket Center or the Grand Floridian Resort Monorail Stations, which are both within walking distance!
Disney’s Contemporary Resort
The Polynesian is nearing the end of its refurbishment, but Disney’s Contemporary Resort is nowhere near finished yet! The Contemporary is updating guest rooms with a new Incredibles theme, and they’re adding updates to the first floor lobby as well! Until late September of this year, the front desk check-in and concierge will be on the second floor instead.
One of Contemporary’s restaurants, The Wave…of American Flavors is also closed in August since it’s getting refurbished as well. It is scheduled to be open in time for the 50th Anniversary Celebrations, which begin in Disney World on October 1st! If you love the Wave’s breakfast, never fear! It’s available now, being served in the California Grill, also located in the Contemporary Resort. To make reservations, go to the Wave’s page on the Disney World website and follow instructions for reservations!
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and Villas
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Jambo House have been closed to most guests since Disney World reopened (but the DVC rooms have been open). They are both scheduled to open on August 26th, 2021!
Reservations are open now for both of these resorts!
Disney’s All-Star Resorts
Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort is open now, but the All-Star Sports and Music Resorts are still closed. All-Star Music will reopen on September 16th, 2021…
…and All-Star Sports will reopen on December 9th, 2021.
Reservations are open for both of these resorts now, even though the resorts themselves aren’t open until later this year.
Disney’s Port Orleans Resorts
Two more Disney World resorts that have been closed since last year are reopening soon! Disney’s Port Orleans – French Quarter and Disney’s Port Orleans – Riverside will both be reopening in October, so neither will be open in August.
You can make reservations now for when the resorts open, which will be October 14th, 2021 for Riverside and October 28th, 2021 for French Quarter.
Disney’s Old Key West Resort
At Disney’s Old Key West Resort, the lobby is undergoing refurbishment.
During the first phase of this update, the main lobby is still open and guests can continue to check in like normal! For the second phase, the front desk and concierge will be moved to the den area near the lobby. Cast members will be there to help if you get a little lost! This refurbishment is expected to last through late September of this year.
Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort
At Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort, the lobby and port cochere (drive-up entrance) will be closed in August.
Magical Express will still pick up and drop off guests at the port cochere, but guests who are driving their own vehicles will be directed to check-in at the Disney Vacation Club Preview Center. The main lobby will be closed as well, with the front desk and concierge services available in the hallway instead. This construction is expected to last through October 2021.
As a side note, the spa at Disney’s Saratoga Springs is still not available.
That’s it for the hotels and rides that will be closed in Disney World during the month of August! Keep following DFB for more updates on what’s happening in Disney World!
