It’s no secret that things have been very busy at Disney World this holiday season!
We’ve seen loads of crowds over the past few weeks and long waits for some attractions. But today, we think we’ve seen one of the longest wait times we’ve seen in a VERY long time!
So here’s the story — over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, there’s a little talked-about land called Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge with a little ride you might have heard about called Rise of the Resistance. All kidding aside, though, this technologically-advanced attraction is one of the most popular in Disney World.
But just how popular is it? Well today, we saw a wait time for it that sort of made our heads explode!
The wait time for Rise of Resistance this afternoon was a whopping 245 minutes! That’s FOUR HOURS of standing in line, folks. FOUR hours.
We have to give those people some props, though — that’s serious Star Wars dedication right there. But we are pretty sure this is the longest wait time we’ve seen for Rise of the Resistance since it switched from requiring a boarding queue to standby.
This is one of those times where we might recommend considering purchasing the Individual Attraction Selection for this ride to access the Lightning Lane — but you would’ve needed to make that purchase earlier in the day today as Lightning Lane is currently sold out for this attraction. So keep that in mind if this ride is at the top of your Disney World “To Do” list — get those Individual Attraction Selections booked early!
How early can you book an Individual Attraction Selection? Well, it depends on where you’re staying on your Disney World vacation! If you’re staying at a Disney owned- and operated-hotel, you can make your Individual Attraction Selections each day starting at 7AM. If you AREN’T staying on Disney World property, you can make your first Individual Attraction Selection when the park opens.
We HAVE seen Individual Attraction Selections “sell out” for Rise of the Resistance, so if you want to avoid the possibility of having to wait in a line that can reach up to four hours long, make sure to book those reservations as early as possible (right at 7AM is ideal!). Also keep in mind that you do NOT have to purchase Genie+ in order to purchase a reservation for those Individual Attraction Selections.
We’ll continue to look at these longer wait times this week at Disney World, so don’t go anywhere!

I was in DHS the day after Thanksgiving and also saw over 4 hour wait times for Rise of the Resistance that day. However, it’s fairly well known that actual wait times are usually shorter than the “Official” posted wait times, nevertheless it was a real shocker, especially since I’d tried to book an Individual Lightning Lane pass at 7:15 that morning, and they were already sold out.
IMHO, Rise of the Resistance is one ride that truly is worth the cost of an Individual pass purchase (when and if you can get it).
The ride broke down this morning for several hours about an hour after the park officially opened at 8:30 today. I never saw individual Lightening Lane passes become available to regular guests while I was there this morning. It was crazy and a little disappointing.
Another prime example of how the “pay to play” Genie+ system is a failure for those who don’t want to pay extra or simply can’t afford for the “privilege” of riding certain rides at the parks.
But this is what Bob Chapek and the Disney regime wants. They want to systematically push out the working class guest and cater to and only to the wealthier guests. Rather than it be the Happiest Place on Earth, they want to make it an exclusive club for people that have excess disposable income.
As we were in Galaxy’s Edge yesterday and know the reason for the extremely long wait for Rise of the Resistance, it should be noted that the ride went down at about 9 am and did not come back up until around 12:30 pm. This including all the guests that purchased the LL and the stand by guests that got FREE tickets for a later return, should note the reason for the long stand by line being at over a 300 minute wait at one time to eventually being shut down all together to accommodate all the guests once the ride came back online. The ride times also surged at DHS due to multiple rides malfunctioning throughout the day… Rockin Rollercoaster, Tower of Terror, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Slinkydog Dash and Lightning McQueen Racing Academy.
It was 295 minutes last week for two days in the afternoon. Shocking how this ride continues to break down all the time…
Not one ride is worth a 4 hour line…..NONE. I’ve put Disney World on the back burner, not even considering a Disney trip in the near to distant future. Too crowded, to many extra expenses that weren’t there before and it’s just not fun when your whole day is spent standing in lines. Nope. I’ll spend my money elsewhere.
I have no problem paying for the rides I want to ride on. My time is with more than wasting four hours for a ride.
We went the week after Thanksgiving. My daughter paid for the trip for eight of us. I paid for all the lightening lanes. It was well worth not having to entertain kiddos or getting to the end of the line only to miss it due to a call of nature for one of the children.
