Pull out the Mariah Carey and dump out the pumpkin spice friends, the holiday season is basically HERE. And you know what comes with the holidays? GINGERBREAD!
You might be well aware of the holiday merchandise you can get online, and the holiday decor and snacks that pop up in the parks, but if you aren’t going to Disney World’s hotels to celebrate the season, you’re doing it WRONG.
Many Disney fans know and love the GIANT gingerbread house that gets created in Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa year after year, but did you know that a special gingerbread display usually goes up in Disney’s Contemporary Resort too?
It’s been a while since we’ve seen the gingerbread display here return in all its glory (we last spotted a gingerbread castle here in 2019), so we were THRILLED when we walked through the Contemporary today and saw that gingerbread display construction is underway!
Again, the last full-on gingerbread display we saw here was in 2019, which featured a gingerbread castle with nods to Mary Blair, a Disney Imagineer whose signature design style you’ll recognize from things like “it’s a small world.” The year before that, the castle had a similar design (and it had a castle design with some of the same elements in 2017 as well!). So far, it seems like the design will be very similar.
In other words, the gingerbread display is a staple of the Contemporary Resort and it is much beloved by fans, so we’re THRILLED that it’s coming back!
On the gingerbread castle, you’ll typically find all kinds of hidden details, with some gingerbread characters usually standing in front of it. In the past, it has been themed to Frozen, Cinderella, and more. We’ve even seen a big gingerbread tree! Disney did say this year it is a Cinderella Castle with a 50th anniversary theme! We are looking forward to seeing this year’s display once it is finalized.
Once the display is done and officially “open” for guests to enjoy, you’ll also typically find some snacks near it at the cookie stand! It’s set to open on November 11th at 11AM.
