It’s official — the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays is here!
In preparation for the festival, we’ve been reading the menus, we created a DFB printable for the booths that you can download for FREE, and we shared our best tips for EPCOT festivals. We’ve been making our way around the festival giving you our full thoughts on each booth and our next stop is the Las Posadas Holiday Kitchen!
Menu
Las Posadas Holiday Kitchen is located at the Mexico pavilion and you’ll find plenty of Mexican-inspired eats on the menu.
This booth is bringing back the same dessert from past years, but there are two NEW menu items! On top of that, there are two new alcoholic drinks to try here. Enough talking, let’s EAT!
Eats
We started off with the brand-new Giant Tostada de Barbacoa! It is braised barbacoa beef on a giant tostada with chipotle black bean purée, salsa verde, queso cotija, crema Mexicana, and pickled onion and you can try it for $10.50.
Last year, there was a tostada with chorizo and it was on our best of the fest list…so how is the barbacoa version?
Well, it did NOT disappoint! It was really delicious and the beef was well-cooked and flavorful. The black bean puree was also very creamy and smooth. Add the crema to that, along with the delicious pickled onions, and you’ve got a really flavorful bite!
The other new menu item this year is the Cochinita Pibil Tamal for $8. This dish is cochinita pibil in corn masa topped with Pipián sauce, queso cotija, and crema Mexicana. Sounds good, right?
Well, unfortunately, this one did NOT hit the mark for us and was our team member’s LEAST favorite thing at the entire booth. It was very dry and we didn’t get any strong flavors from it. It also felt like there were too many peanuts added to it. They provided a nice flavor but felt sort of necessary.
Had the dish been served with more sauce, we think that it could have been better. But it’s not something we’d go out of our way to try again.
Both of those new menu items are gluten/wheat friendly.
The returning food item on the menu is the Dulce de Leche Churros sprinkled with cinnamon-sugar for $6.25. In the past, we’ve said that this treat is a churro-lover’s dream.
This year, the churros were good but overall just standard. They were essentially regular churros with a sweet filling — good, but nothing extraordinary.
It’s time to wash all of that food down with a few drinks!
Drinks
It wouldn’t be a booth in the Mexico pavilion without a margarita right? There are 3 alcoholic beverages on the menu and 2 of them are new in 2022!
Starting us off is the new Pomegranate Margarita for $13.75. This marg is made with Ilegal Mezcal Joven, black currant liqueur, pomegranate, and ginger juice with a hibiscus salt rim.
This drink was very alcohol-forward, and unfortunately, by the time we got to drink it, it was pretty watered down. The pomegranate sank to the bottom, so make sure to stir it up before you give it a sip.
While the pomegranate was refreshing, we don’t think it was enough to “save” the drink. It’s another thing we wouldn’t go out of our way to try again.
The returning drink this year is the Horchata Margarita made with Centinela Blanco Tequila, Abasolo Corn Whisky, Agua de Horchata, and a hint of cinnamon-infused mezcal for $13.25. This drink has been around for a few festivals now and if you’re looking for a cold and creamy drink that puts you in the holiday mood, this is it!
Our last item at this booth is the new Holiday Cerveza which is Cielito Lindo Artisanal Mexican Beer blended for the holiday season. A cup of this will cost you $11 — but is this a must-get? It depends.
Our team member who tried it said that it tasted like a pretty standard light beer. It was refreshing though, so that was nice. But it has a strong hoppy aftertaste, so that’s something to be prepared for.
Our team member shared that even though they’re not really a beer drinker, this wasn’t all that bad. So it might be one you’ll enjoy even if beers aren’t usually your thing.
Overall
Overall, this booth was a bit of a mixed bag. We loved the giant tostada and the horchata margarita is typically a refreshing choice, but the tamal was a bit dry, the churros were pretty standard, and the pomegranate margarita was not our favorite.
