One of the fanciest restaurants on the Disney Cruise Line has just subtly changed its dress code rules!

Most Disney restaurants — in the theme parks and on the cruise ships — have a casual dress code. You’re on vacation, after all! But there are a few exclusive, signature dining experiences that do request that guests dress up a bit for the meal. One of those is Palo, which is an adults-only restaurant on the Disney Cruise Line. Now, there’s been a change in the rules at Palo!
Palo is an elegant northern Italian-inspired restaurant that can be found on the Disney Magic, Wonder, Dream, and Fantasy cruise ships. A very similar restaurant is also found on the Wish — Palo Steakhouse. The Palo restaurants on all five of these ships are exclusive to adults and have a fairly strict dress code.

Recently, however, we noticed an important update to this dress code: Now, guests attending brunch at Palo and Palo Steakhouse can wear dress shorts! Previously, shorts were not permitted; dress pants were required.

Here’s a look at the full dress code for the Palo restaurants:
“Adult-exclusive restaurants aboard Disney Cruise Line ships are elegant dining experiences. Guests are requested to dress in a manner consistent with the restaurant’s sophistication. Formal or semi-formal attire is recommended. Also permitted is dress-casual attire with a polished look, such as dress pants, jeans in good condition, collared shirts, dressy tops and lifestyle shoes. For brunch at Palo and Palo Steakhouse, dress shorts are acceptable. Clothing such as T-shirts, swimwear and sports attire are not permitted.”

Restaurants on Disney’s cruise ships aren’t the only ones with a dress code. Some signature restaurants in the Disney World parks nad hotels have a specific dress code as well, such as California Grill in the Contemporary Resort, Jiko in the Animal Kingdom Resort, and Takumi-Tei in EPCOT’s Japan pavilion.

Back in the day, folks used to dress decently for a day in the theme park. They really went all out for the better restaurants ie Chef’s de France and Cinderella’s castle.
My daughter and family flew down for her birthday and we all went to Chef’s —Our very favorite! The men and boys in our group had buttoned, collars shirts; women had dresses.
Imagine our disgust at sitting beside a table where the men wore backward, tattered ball caps and sleeveless undershirts. Not like the old days for sure. This was March 27 2009. We never went back. And we are Annual Passholders
I wore a very nice Hawaiian shirt, nice cargo pants, and sneakers to Enchante and they didn’t bat an eye. It’s not that strict!
I’m sorry to hear that yet again, sloppy comfort edges out polished cruise attire. It’s bad enough that virtually every cruise line has ditched “formal night” activities. If you’re paying a premium upcharge for a special meal in an amazing atmosphere, would it kill you to look your best?
Can’t wait to see the sausage stuffed yoga pants and hairy toes in flip flops at the adjoining table. Might as well stick to the usual dining rotation if the “special” restaurants are no longer special.
