Some of Disney World’s “worst” restaurants have surprised us in the best way possible.
We know, we know — there are a few spots around Disney World that have earned a reputation for being a little… underwhelming or really divisive. But that didn’t stop us from digging deeper and trying some snacks that completely changed the game. These are hidden gems — tucked away in places you probably wouldn’t expect to find anything worth writing home about. Let’s talk about the four snacks that made us stop mid-bite and go, “Wait, this is from where?”
The Grey Stuff at Be Our Guest (Magic Kingdom)
Let’s get one thing straight: we LOVE the Grey Stuff. It’s exactly as delicious as Lumiere promised. But you won’t find it listed as “The Grey Stuff” on the menu — it’s technically part of the Dessert Trio under the name “Chocolate Tart.”
Here’s the breakdown: it’s a crisp chocolate tart shell filled with that iconic Grey Stuff mousse. And while the tart shell adds a nice crunch and depth of flavor, we’re going to be honest — we kinda wish they’d just skip the shell and give us a giant swirl of Grey Stuff in a bowl. That smooth cookies-and-cream flavor is what we’re really here for. Still, if you’re dining at Be Our Guest, this dessert makes the whole meal feel a little more worth it. It’s easily the best part of the trio and one of the few things that keeps us coming back to this otherwise hit-or-miss restaurant.
Garlic Bread with Parmesan Fondue at Tony’s Town Square (Magic Kingdom)
Let’s be real — Tony’s doesn’t exactly have a fan club. It’s one of the most consistently critiqued sit-down spots in Magic Kingdom. So imagine our shock when this garlic bread came out and totally rocked our world.
It’s technically called “Garlic Bread with Parmesan Fondue,” but we’re calling it what it really is — a redemption arc. The bread is golden and crispy on the outside, soft and pillowy inside, and comes in a generous portion. The real MVP, though, is the parmesan fondue on the side. It’s melty, cheesy, salty in all the right ways, and just begging to be poured all over the bread. This is the kind of snack that has you re-thinking everything you thought you knew about a restaurant. If you’ve sworn off Tony’s in the past, this dish alone might get you to give it another shot.
Foot-Long Mozzarella Sticks at Tony’s Town Square (Magic Kingdom)
Yep — Tony’s again. We were skeptical, too. But these giant mozzarella sticks are exactly what they sound like: cheesy, crispy, and absurdly long in the best way. They’re served with a spicy creamy tomato sauce that, to be honest, kind of caught us off guard. When Disney says “spicy,” they usually mean mildly seasoned. This time? The heat was legit.
We were reaching for water after just one dunk. So here’s your heads up: if you don’t like spicy, ask for the sauce on the side, or swap it out for marinara (yes, that’s totally an option — just ask a Cast Member). But if you’re a cheese lover and can handle a little kick, this is a super satisfying shareable snack. It’s everything you want from a mozzarella stick, just… more of it. Way more.
The Capella at Space 220 (EPCOT)
Space 220 has been kind of hit or miss, especially with all the hype it had when it first opened. The food can feel a little out-there (pun intended), and the prices aren’t exactly casual. But then we met The Capella.
This dessert completely caught us off guard. It’s a maple mousse with orange curd, cranberry orange blondie, and chai cream — and somehow, all of those flavors work. The chai and cranberry orange combo tastes like something off a holiday table, and the maple mousse brings this creamy warmth that ties it all together. It’s sweet, spiced, tangy, and comforting in a way you don’t expect from a restaurant themed around outer space. Of all the desserts we tried at Space 220, this was the one we couldn’t stop thinking about. If you’re grabbing a drink at the lounge or just want to pop in for a quick bite, make this your dessert pick.
So, what’s the takeaway here? Never underestimate a Disney World restaurant — even the ones with a “bad” reputation. Sometimes all it takes is one snack to totally flip the script. If you’re park-hopping and looking for something new to try, these dishes might just surprise you too.
