Although most Disney visitors go to Disney’s Animal Kingdom to see live animals in Disney World, you can also see live animals at EPCOT at The Seas with Nemo and Friends Pavilion.
The Seas has one of the largest aquariums in the world, not to mention special spaces for rehabilitating sea creatures like manatees (some of our favorite Disney guests) before releasing the animals back out into the wild or sending them on their way elsewhere. Well, if you love the aquarium at The Seas as much as we do, you’ll need to visit soon, because the aquarium just got some new additions: seadragons.
That’s right, some seadragons have moved into The Seas! If you do pop by to visit them, though, they are in the nursery, which is still mostly enclosed by curtains because the care team is getting them used to having a lot of people around staring at them. But they do already have their own little sign with some details about how they’re masters of disguise.
We also learned a lot about them while visiting The Seas. For example, seadragons don’t have a preference for dark or light environments. They just really like cold environments. That’s why their enclosures have coolers that keep the water around 70 degrees all year round for them.
This group of seadragons is currently seven months old, and the good news is that they’ll be here as a permanent part of the aquarium. Cast Members can’t yet determine which are males and females, though, because that’s hard to determine until they’re about one year old, when they reach full maturity. Seadragons are a little bigger than seahorses, by the way.
Anyway, these cute little sea creatures have been very popular since they arrived in EPCOT. Eventually, there will be fewer curtains until there won’t be a need for curtains at all, but it’s all about getting them used to all the sudden attention. We were also told that they were still working on the enclosure for them, too. But you can talk to a Cast Member nearby, who can tell you all kinds of details about them. Who says you can’t learn something on vacation, right?
So if you’re visiting EPCOT, be sure to stop by and visit its cutest new citizens. We’ll also be keeping an eye out for more Disney World news, so stay tuned to DFB for more.
