Closer to the end of 2023, Disney announced that they would be cracking down on password sharing for Disney+ accounts.

Disney+ certainly isn’t the first streaming service to do this either. Netflix began charging for password sharing in early 2023, and other streamers have followed suit with similar changes. However, Disney+ hadn’t put this change into effect yet…until now.
Listen up! It seems that Disney is meaning business when it comes to cracking down on password sharing for Disney+ accounts in 2024.

Disney announced during its Q3 Earnings Call this year that they will be working on a new plan for the streaming service, which involves determining strategies for pricing, marketing, and content to “reset the whole business around economics.” Part of that plan was looking for ways to address account sharing, and now the company is starting to crack down on password sharing in some parts of the world. One of those changes was the addition of Groupwatch, which gave users the ability to watch Disney+ with a group and have the show or movie synced to each person’s device so that you could watch together in real time, even when you aren’t physically together! While we’re no longer separated by quarantine, some of our loved ones still live very far away, and we still enjoyed utilizing this Disney+ feature.
