Just when you thought there couldn’t possibly be another way to enjoy fireworks at Walt Disney World. Guess what? There is!
You already know about the Wishes Dessert Party at Magic Kingdom as well as the Ferrytale Wishes Fireworks Dessert Cruise. And you can’t forget fireworks viewing from great venues like California Grill, ‘Ohana, and Narcoossee’s.
But now, you can party in Mad Hatter fashion at the Grand Floridian, thanks to Gone Mad Wishes Fireworks Party! The pop up party takes place Wednesdays from 8:30 to 10:30PM, in the area just outside Gasparilla Island Grill.
Look for interactive fun aplenty, with a DJ spinning tunes while Cast Members encourage dancing. There are also some fun props on standby for photo ops. And in a departure from most other Disney Fireworks Parties, no reservations are required, and the event is free. Yep! You read that right. FREE.
Now, there are plenty of treats and drinks that you can purchase. Think of this gathering as something similar to those pool parties that happen during afternoons around the resort.
But there is one big, bold difference: this is an Alice in Wonderland-themed party. And so you’d expect things to be a little wonky and a little wild. In addition to crazy themed eats and drinks, like Cheshire Cat Cupcakes and Green Potion Punch, seating is guaranteed to make you smile as well. Because they’ve furnished the party with chairs and ottomans from the Mad T Party at Disneyland!
If you’re looking to join in on the fun, remember to head to the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa on Wednesdays from 8:30 until 10:30. Reservations are not required, and anyone can join in — you don’t have to be staying at the Grand Floridian to take part.
But just a word of caution: call ahead and to make sure that the party is taking place during your visit. At this time, there is no indication how long the parties will continue to take place.
Now, let’s hear from you guys! Does the Gone Mad Wishes Fireworks Party Sound like a fun evening to you? Leave a comment and tell us what you think!

Now this is exactly what Disney needs !!! How exciting for those who cannot afford all the expensive parties !!! I hope this event is a HUGE success so that Disney will be encouraged to have a lot more of these events !!! Thank you for sharing this information !!!
I agree with Elizabeth. It’s so nice to see the old time Disney graciousness! It’s a party that’s there for everyone to enjoy. If you want treats or drinks you pay for them and that’s only fair, but at least a person or family doesn’t need a bank loan to join in on the fun. Disney, your CLASS is showing again and I hope you read this! Bravo for you!
When I saw the headline, I immediately assumed “oh, another Disney money-grubbing ‘dessert party’ not worth the money” only to be pleasantly surprised to see that it’s FREE! Like those above me said, it’s nice to see the old Disney hospitality coming through! FINALLY! Though we’re lucky enough to be able to afford the dessert parties or those atrocious “early entry breakfast” deals like at DHS, we’ve NEVER opted to participate in them because they are not worth it (in our opinion, others may disagree)…and we likely wouldn’t participate in this event either. However, I think it’s important that Disney make sure ALL of the guests feel like they’re being treated with the top-notch service Disney has always been known for, rather than the select group that can afford the add-on events and parties. It’s about time, I say!
Free? Wow, we’ll done Disney.
Will this be happening THIS Wednesday? When dies it start?
TIA!
Hummmmmm? That location is free to stand and/or in every Thursday – Tuesday. There’s usually 15 wrought iron chairs and three or four tables at this location. Now those are being pushed aside and 15 additional big puffy looking chairs are being added along with a dozen back-less foot stools. Now, istead of getting an unobstructed view of the waterway and castle way off in the distance, you’ll get to see a bartender with a register and a dessertender with a register, blocking the view. I don’t get it.
We’re getting very close to seeing my most wished for and anticipated event… the Premium Parking Lot Wishes Dessert Party!
I agree – I love this idea! Wonderful that it’s an event that anyone can attend (in a remote enough location that chances are it won’t be overrun by too many people) and guests can purchase items as they are wanted instead of paying lots up front for items you may not want. This is the kind of magic I hope to see more of!
Amy — It’s happening right now, but I can’t confirm tomorrow for sure. Cast Members suggest that you give the resort a quick call before heading over, just to confirm that the party is on for the evening in question. 🙂
I spoke with a rep tonight who told me that it is on the calendar for every Wed in Aug. going tomorrow night to check it out! 🙂
Hope this is still going on in November when I am there.
I thought this would be awesome. My family and I went over to check it out last night and was sadly disappointed. At 8:30 there was a huge line and by 8:50 they ran out of desserts and we were only half way there. There was no seating or dancing. We ended up going to Magic Kingdom for our special treat and fireworks.
And Julie’s comment explains the problem with free parties. NO THANKS! I’d prefer to pay & ensure a nice experience for my family.
