Season’s Eatings!
While taking a stroll through Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort this week, we spotted a returning Holiday cupcake at Gasparilla Island Grill!
We love scoping out all the new holiday treats around the resorts. We recently checked out all the Grand Floridian’s gingerbread house has to offer this year, but something else caught our eye in Gasparilla Island Grill’s bakery case!
It isn’t hard to see why our eyes were drawn right to it! We noticed the holiday wreath cupcake has returned for the season! The beautiful green wreath and red bow really stand out!
Last year, this treat was a spice cake filled with apple filling, but not so this year! This year, the cupcake is made with red velvet cake, cream cheese frosting, and a green buttercream frosting “wreath”.
The wreath is adorned with a lovely red chocolate bow and multi-color sprinkles. It’s *almost* too pretty to eat.
But oh, DEER — what was inside wasn’t as pretty as we hoped! We really wanted to love this one, but it did not quite hit the mark for us.
When looking for the “practically perfect” red velvet cake, we are looking for a moist cake with a velvety crumb. Unfortunately, this red velvet cake was quite dry. We did find this cupcake towards the end of the night, so it could have been an older batch. (Disney has given us some pretty stellar red velvet treats before, so we’re sure it must have been bad timing!!)
Again, we’re hoping we just got a bad batch because even our cream cheese frosting didn’t really taste all that cream-cheesy. It was super cold and hard from the bakery case (which we usually don’t mind one bit!) but it just tasted a little too bland and hard for what we’ve come to expect from Disney cream cheese frosting.
The green buttercream frosting, on the other hand, was delicious — as is usually the case with Disney cupcakes. We wish it would have had more of this tasty buttercream frosting and less of the cream cheese-based one. Hey, at least we weren’t entirely “bah, humbug” about this beautiful cupcake.
Again, we’re certain this must have been bad timing on our part. Gasparilla usually has reliably tasty cupcakes and this one is just too cute for us to disregard! Give it a shot (preferably not SUPER late at night like we did!) and see what you think! Let us know if you caught them at a better time!
You can purchase it for $5.49 or a Disney Dining Plan snack credit.
We were told that the seasonal cupcakes will be rotated often, so expect to see more holiday cupcake offerings at Gasparilla Island Grill soon!
You know we will be present to try their next holiday creation, which we are hoping will SLEIGH us with beauty on both the inside and the outside!

Have you tried any of the holiday cupcakes at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort? Please let us know what you thought in the comments below!
I’m slightly disappointed. I would have loved to try the spice cake/apple version. I’m not a red velvet lover and I get chocolate and vanilla all the time. Luckily there are tons of other treats to try!
I don’t think you got a bad batch. I bought one of the Holiday Red Velvet Cupcakes at Big Top Souvenirs last week..it was dry and tasteless. I was super disappointed, and it was 2:30pm so not late night.
