We’re covering a LOT of changes in Disneyland right now as we explore the park for the first time in over a year!
We’ve been reporting LIVE from the park today. Now, we’re bringing you some Disneyland food news that might not be the best thing you hear today. You may need to sit down for this one.
Disneyland Resort has some seriously iconic food and drinks. From Dole Whip to Churros, and from Corn Dogs and Mint Juleps, it’s hard NOT to find a tasty bite in these parks. Now, though, an ICONIC meal has been switched to a much smaller portion. And no, we aren’t talking about the snack-sized portion we had at A Touch of Disney.
We had lunch today at Cafe Orleans to check out what dining looked like these days at Disneyland! BTW, as of this writing they were only seating one party indoors, and the rest of their guests are seated outdoors on the patio area. Those familiar with Cafe Orleans may recall how tiny of a space it is indoors, so it looks like there’s only room for one party until they can raise capacity!
We were pretty ecstatic to be reunited once again with the famous Monte Cristo Sandwich from Blue Bayou and Cafe Orleans after it recently appeared at Smokejumpers Grill during A Touch of Disney. The big difference this time? It was a HALF portion. Prior to the closures, Cafe Orleans was serving up a full portion of the Monte Cristo Sandwich but has now switched to serving a 1/2 Monte Cristo Sandwich instead. Aw, beans.
Previously, you could get a full Monte Cristo (so four cornered pieces) for $21 at Cafe Orleans. Now, you get just two quartered pieces for $21. It still comes served with Berry Purée, Parmesan-Garlic Pommes Frites, and Cajun-spiced Remoulade. That’s right…the OTHER big change is that the Monte Cristo now comes with a SIDE of Parmesan-Garlic Pommes Frites. You can no longer order the Pommes Frites on their own!
Now, this is kind of a bittersweet change. It’s hard to be happy about a smaller portion but when you consider that price change and how RICH this sandwich is, it might not seem as bad. But to pay essentially the same price as before for HALF of what you used to get (granted, it comes with an extra side now) is a tough pill to swallow. Warning though, this sandwich isn’t all that shareable anymore. Blue Bayou, however, still serves the full portion.
At the end of the day, however…we’re just glad to be reunited with our favorite Disneyland sammie.

I am not too happy about paying $21 for a half a sandwich and some fries. But at least it’s still on the menu
Does the full portion at Blue Bayou come with Pommes Frites?
Jamie, it looks as though it does not, based on the online menus. The side seems to be fruit.
I was disappointed in the sauce. It seems to be just strawberry instead of the more Tart ?blackberry? from before.
I actually think this sounds like a pretty good change. We’d usually order one order of Pommes Frites for the table, and then fight over them, lol. Would not finish the Monte Cristo, so lugged the leftovers around the park for the day, put them in the fridge at the hotel, and honestly, usually threw them away at the end of the trip because we never finished them.
The sandwich is so rich, half of it is plenty. Plus having more Pommes Frites all to myself that I don’t have to share? Yes please! Would be nice if they lowered the price a few dollars, but that’s Disney …
The sandwich itself seems to have changed since before the pandemic. What happened to the bread, either white or challah? That’s what gave the sandwich substance; now it’s just a delicious blob of meat and cheese.
