While the Disney World parks reopened back in July, Disneyland postponed its previously announced reopening due to guidance and mandates from government and health officials. Downtown Disney has since reopened, as well as Buena Vista Street. And recently Disneyland introduced its “A Touch of Disney” event, which is coming to Disney California Adventure soon. Earlier, we shared that Disney was aiming to reopen Disneyland in late April. But, now Disney has officially announced when its California theme parks will reopen!
Disneyland Reopening Date
Disney has announced that it is set to officially begin a phased reopening. According to statements made by Disney CEO Bob Chapek on CNBC’s “Squawk Alley” today, Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure will reopen on APRIL 30th, 2021.
Let’s go over some of the details related to Disneyland’s upcoming reopening.
Capacity and Other Restrictions
Orange County, where Disneyland is located, is currently in the “Red Tier” or “Substantial Tier” under California’s tiered reopening system. Due to recent changes, theme parks can reopen in the Red/Substantial Tier, with certain restrictions. While Orange County remains in the Red/Substantial Tier, Disneyland Resort will only be able to reopen at 15% capacity. Further capacity adjustments can be made once the county reaches other tiers.
Other restrictions are also in place under California’s theme park reopening guidelines. Under the current rules, only California residents will be permitted to attend the reopened theme parks.

Health and Safety Measures
Disneyland Resort is set to implement many of the health and safety measures that we’ve already experienced in Disney World.
First, Disneyland will be using a theme park reservation system when it reopens.
There will also be heightened cleaning and sanitation, and masks will be required.

Characters, Fireworks, Parades, and More
But, today Disney also confirmed that characters will appear in Disneyland and Disney California Adventure in new ways and sometimes unexpected locations to maintain social distancing but still entertain guests.
Also, when Disneyland’s theme parks reopen, parades and fireworks will be temporarily suspended.
When Disney World reopen, it similarly suspended parades and fireworks.
When Disneyland reopens, one of its rides will also be TOTALLY different.

In terms of the Disneyland Resort hotels, we also got an update on that recently. Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel is set to reopen soon, and quickly thereafter the Disney Vacation Club Villas at the hotel will reopen as well.
Just keep in mind that a hotel reservation doesn’t guarantee theme park entry. You’ll still need valid tickets and a theme park reservation to enter the parks.

We will continue to update this post with more information as it is announced.
