Every time we ride the monorail into EPCOT, we’re reminded how far the construction progress has come in the middle of the park!
EPCOT has been in the middle of a massive transformation for several years now, and we’ve been watching it come together slowly, with additions like restaurants, rides, and shops. But this fall, the middle of the park should officially be complete, and today we have a BIG update on the construction!
Let’s start things out next to Guest Relations, where a section of the park has been blocked off for several months. Most of the dirt has been moved around inside this construction zone recently, so hopefully, that means they’re making progress on getting this walkway open again! It would be a great shortcut back to Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.
In World Discovery, we’ve been watching the construction at Cool Wash, which has been renamed Refreshment Station. The inside has been revamped, but it looks like there’s more work to be done!
As you come around the back of Spaceship Earth, you can see the progress on CommuniCore Plaza, where there seems to be a new pavilion constructed. This outdoor space will have multiple functions, and we can’t wait to see it complete!
CommuniCore Hall is the indoor space next to the plaza, and a BUNCH of support beams have been added recently. Also, a significant amount of progress has been made on the roof of the building.
Finally, we make it to the main event…Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana! Most of the structural elements in the attraction are complete, but it seems like the Imagineers are still hard at work on the technicalities.
There’s still a little more landscaping to be done by the entrance and exit, but the pathways through the walking trail are all in place!
And if you want to get up close to the attraction, you can take the NEW walkway that opened up at EPCOT recently. It’s a shortcut from Spaceship Earth to World Nature, and it comes up right alongside Journey of Water.
On the other side of that construction wall is a space that looks to house some essential equipment for the new attraction. It’s likely that Disney will surround this with trees to hide it from the public eye before more of the space is opened up.
And that’s a complete look at the construction in EPCOT! We’re excited to have the transformation completed this fall, and until then, we’ll continue to bring you updates. Stay tuned to DFB!

The new pavilion is truly a fail. Really ugly and a boring addition to EPCOT. If Igar were smart he’d have it removed and start over.
I agree, the old Communicore halves with the fountains was timeless and well imagined. This new building shows no creativity or cutting edge archectual style
Sorry if I don’t know what’s going on but is commicore plaza a new pavilion? What was it and what is it turning into ? I was just there and I’m so confused and lost. Will it be like a gift shop or something ? All I can see is walls and beams. Mohana looks cool but is it just like a walk through that sprays water on you ? I really miss walking through Epcot the way it was with the big beautiful fountain and the twinkle lights on the ground. I know this will be beautiful too but I just don’t know what’s going on. And Mary Poppins is definitely a no go I guess ? I saw they still have the Winnie the Pooh meet and greet in Christopher Robbins room just sitting there like a storage room. I mean it’s cute to watch him do the butterfly act but that room is pretty amazing. I wish they would at least open it back up for us to see.
Hi Jacqueline! CommuniCore was the previous home of Innoventions and focused on technological advancements with rotating exhibits. It is the future home of a new Mickey and Minnie meet and greet.
Thank you for your reply. Any word on what’s happening with Play ?
We have been checking every day we are in EPCOT for any movement on it. We’ve noticed some braille signs still up and a logo here and there, but nothing more at this time.
