So, here at Disney Food Blog, we have serious opinions about Disney food — it’s kinda what we do.
We’ll be the first to let you know about new snacks in Disney World, as well as get you updated reviews when restaurants change their menus. We’ll also talk a LOT about some of our favorite snacks (oh, Dole Whip, how do we love thee?), but we also have some snacks we just don’t like…like at all. However, now we’re going to have a chat about snacks that are just WAY overrated.
So this could get controversial, but we chatted with YOU, our DFB readers, as well as with members of our team, and these are the snacks we just don’t think are worth it.
Mickey Pretzels
Sure, they’re fun and they make great props for Disney World photos, but Mickey pretzels are just okay. Sure, maybe if you dip them in copious amounts of plastic cheese, they’re fantastic, but there are way better pretzels to be found in Disney World.
For example, there’s the loaded pretzel at Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar in Disney Springs that’s basically a charcuterie board where the board is a pretzel. We also like the Na’vi-sized Pretzel from Pongu Pongu in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Baseline Taphouse in Disney’s Hollywood Studios also has an excellent pretzel. If you want a pretzel, might as well get a good one, right?

Turkey Leg
Okay, we’ve made it no secret that we’re just not fans of turkey legs. Yes, it’s kind of an iconic treat and you still see people walking around Magic Kingdom with a gigantic turkey leg in one hand, but those things aren’t…all that. They’re greasy, and there’s gristle (ew) Unless you just really really love turkey, please skip the turkey leg.
There’s no substitute for the turkey leg, though, but we would warn you to think about spending money on one if it’s on your “must get” list — is it a “must get?” Then again, we know that some folks love them, but we have very strong turkey leg opinions here at DFB.

Pre-packaged snacks
Sure, pre-packaged snacks can be convenient because you can just throw them in your bag for later, but with all the great fresh snacks you can get in Disney World, why bother? If you want to save a snack for later, you can do what we do: keep some plastic bags or containers in your day bag to put snacks in! It’s a win-win.
Also, if you’re craving a Rice Krispie treat, don’t buy the pre-packaged ones. You can get fresh Rice Krispie treats at places like Main Street Confectionery in Magic Kingdom and they are way better.

Popcorn from Kat Saka’s Kettle
Sure, space popcorn seems cool when you get it at Kat Saka’s Kettle, and that Outpost Mix is pretty tasty, but it’s not the best popcorn mix you can get in Disney World. It’s okay, in the grand scheme of things, but if you want a unique and delicious popcorn mix, skip it.
Instead, head to Main Street Confectionery and visit the Kernel Kitchen where you can munch on some delicious pre-conceived popcorn mixes or even design your own. Trust us, this stuff is FANTASTIC.

Churros
We don’t understand it: Disneyland churros are literally the best things EVER, but Disney World just completely fails at the churro game. Why is it the churros we get from snack carts in Disney World’s theme parks are so bad? They’re usually stale and not as loaded in flavor as the ones in Disneyland. Is it the humidity or something? Does that ruin a churro? We have questions.
This does not apply to the churros at Nomad Lounge in Animal Kingdom, though, because those ARE perfect, so why are the others SO bad? We’ve also had some decent churros from Sunshine Churros over in Disney Springs. But in the parks? Skip the churros.
Why Are Churros SO MUCH WORSE in Disney World?
Cupcakes
Disney comes up with some very pretty cupcakes with fun themes, but the truth is, there is rarely anything special about those cupcakes and although we’ve eaten many, we can’t think of one single one that still stands out as a favorite snack. Cupcakes are so boring when you think about all the other fun Disney World snacks you could get.
If we want cake flavors, we’d much rather grab a cake slice from Gideon’s Bakehouse. If we want a pretty cake, we would get a mini cake from Amorette’s Patisserie where cakes and flavors are treated like art.

Slushes
Okay, we know that when it gets hot in Disney World, a slush might be just the thing to help cool you down. It just might hit the spot, but the standard slushes at Disney World are also a boring item and not much different from what you could get from your local Sonic. They’re also often way too sweet (although we know kids love that).
Instead, how about looking at some other iconic Disney World frozen treats like the Night Blossom at Pongu Pongu in Animal Kingdom or LeFou’s Brew at Gaston’s Tavern in Magic Kingdom? We love the Frozen Mint Tea you can get in the Morocco Pavilion at EPCOT. Disney World has a TON of drinks that are way better than a simple slush.
