We will ALWAYS talk about Disney food on this blog, and that’s a fact — it’s in our name!
We try all the new snacks, restaurants, menu items, you name it in the Disney parks, because, well, it’s our job. Let’s be honest though — Disney food is EXPENSIVE! We decided to ask our readers how much they spend on Disney food a day on their trips, and most of them said they spend over $100 a day!
Now, if you haven’t been to Disney World in a while, that may sound like an outrageous number, but in all honestly, with the prices of Disney food and the fact that lots of vacations are family vacations, therefore there are more mouths to feed, this isn’t hard to believe.
Many of our readers shared that to feed their families of 3-6 people, it was easily closer to $150-$200 a day, including bringing snacks from home/the hotel room and forgoing any table service meals.
Other readers shared that if they have a smaller group, or are traveling by themselves, and choose to do a table service meal, that itself can easily push them over $100 for the day.
Overall, however, most guests replied and told us that it all comes down to one thing — it depends! Our readers shared that how much they spend in one day depends on some of the following reasons:
- The size of their group and/or the age of their group (teenagers eat more than toddlers!)
- Table Service vs. Quick Service meals (one day you may do two table service meals, the other you may only snack around the park)
- Bringing your own food into the parks
So what can you take away from all of this to help your vacation? Do you really need to plan on spending over $100 a day on just food? According to our readers, if you’ve got a larger group or a small group with some larger appetites and you don’t want to do some grocery shopping for your own snacks and meals, that may be the MINIMUM you’ll want to save.
However, if you’re traveling with a smaller group or are planning to grocery shop for some of your meals, you may only have to save to spend about $50-$75 a day. All in all, just like our trusty readers told us, it really depends on your group. So talk to your party while planning your trip to see how much you should plan to save. My family including the kids are foodies. At DW we spend a small fortune. It’s part of the experience for us. It’s one reason I miss the dinning plan.

We’re fortunate that we’re in DVC. The majority of our meals are made in our rooms, but we will do the occasion splurge to on-property eateries.

For my adult son and I, we usually spend under $100/day. We skip sit down meals in favor of quick service and food courts except for occasionally one table service per trip. Lots of good choices in QS that let us fill up on pretty good food for around $32 or less for breakfast and lunch, and we often split a pizza from our food court for dinner, using our resort refillable mugs for beverages. We do have things like cereal bars, cheese sticks, juice, etc. in our room so we don’t need to spend for a little something in the evening. We skip desserts but may have a snack or two instead of a midday meal. Don’t feel deprived at all, but I know for some people, dining is a big part of their trips. We just want to eat something no fuss but good, then get on with our day.

I can remember when all three meals could be planned for $10.00 a day! (and that was eating good!) Boy, that seems like another lifetime! 😳
