WHOA!!! Do I ever owe DFB Reader Lauren F. a HUGE thank you!
She informed us of some VERY good news… she JUST got a Pineapple and Vanilla Dole Whip SWIRL from Aloha Isle!!!
You may recall when Aloha Isle and Sunshine Tree Terrace switched locations in Magic Kingdom’s Adventureland well over two years ago. But the locations weren’t the only thing that changed at the time: there was a change to the Aloha Isle menu, too. The option to swirl your Pineapple Dole Whip with Orange (or order Orange on its own) was removed from the menu.
In fact, the only flavor on the menu at all was simply Pineapple. And even though Pineapple Dole Whip — often referred to as Pineapple Soft Serve — has been popping up in various locations around Disney World (like the latest beverages at All Star Resort bars, for instance), the only place you have been able to swirl flavors since the location change was the Polynesian’s Pineapple Lanai.
We happily confirmed Lauren’s findings with a visit to the Disney World’s website where Vanilla does, indeed, appear on the Aloha Isle menu! [Read more…]
Whether you’ve been to Walt Disney World one time or one hundred times, there’s always something new to do. And right now, there’s a ton! Besides the opening of Pandora, the World’s newest land located at Animal Kingdom, there are seven other fun and functional new experiences you’ve gotta try!
has been offered since May 2017, and now it’s expanded to more locations! Mobile Ordering allows guests to use their My Disney Experience app to pre-order and pre-pay for meals at counter service locations.
Mobile Ordering lets participating guests bypass the ordering queue and go directly to the Order Pick-Up window. No more waiting in long lines to order your nuggets, y’all!
Summer is the season of frozen treats, and while we don’t think you ever need a specific reason to indulge in ice cream, the heat in central Florida is certainly a sufficient and easy excuse.
Enter Ghirardelli Ice Cream and Chocolate Shop!
Ghirardelli Ice Cream and Chocolate Shop is located in the Marketplace of Disney Springs, with the “Spitting Stitch” entrance of World of Disney on one side and the Marketplace Co-Op on the other (Disneylanders can find Ghirardelli in Disney California Adventure, too). You might know Ghirardelli as the San Fran-sophisticated shop that emits the irresistible scent of chocolate (and the spot where you can still snag a free sample of the famously creamy Ghirardelli Chocolate Squares).
In addition to chocolate, Ghirardelli always plays a great Sundae game. Treats come complete with San Francisco-inspired names like the Golden Gate Banana Split. There’s also a spectacular four (or more) person delight called the The Earthquake with its EIGHT scoops of ice cream and full toppings (think of it as akin to Beaches and Cream’s Kitchen Sink, only without an Advance Dining Reservation).
So, everybody, grab a spoon, and join us as we try two Sundaes we hadn’t tried on previous visits: the Presidio Passion and the Crissy Field.
FYI, Presidio National Park is located at the Golden Gate in San Francisco, and the Presidio Passion Sundae inspired by this unique park is a chocolate-covered strawberry lover’s dream!
Swirls of strawberry and chocolate come together in this indulgent cup (the cup is key here, as it’s easy to carry with you if you’ve grabbed your sundae on the go!). Just LOOK at it…

We’ve sure been doing some talking about Epcot lately, what with the 2017 International Food and Wine Festival starting in less than a month (!!!) and some sneaky peeks happening over the past few weeks.
But lest we get lost in a sea of future Marketplace Booths, there is plenty happening in the here and now, too. And one of the places it’s ALWAYS happening is La Cava del Tequila inside the Mexico Pavilion of World Showcase.
This cave full of liquor features one of my absolute favorites with the Avocado Margarita, which remains near the top of my Drinking Around the World list. It’s creamy, surprisingly refreshing, and fully satisfying on a hot day. But if you’re looking to stray outside the list of tried and true favorites, with over 70 types of tequila you can easily find something new-to-you!
So let’s head on down to La Cava, inside the Mexico pyramid. And remember, you can queue up to grab your drinks To-Go; or you can wait for a table to open up at this cozy little spot.
But if you do choose to sit a spell, you can’t beat the atmosphere. Low lighting, lots of stone and brick work, beautiful murals showcasing the tequila-making process, and carved chairs help this place feel right at home in the beautiful Pavilion while still having a vibe unique to anywhere else in Disney World. It’s a great little getaway. [Read more…]
Ready to create a little culinary MAGIC?
Because THAT’S the goal for participants in the Cake Decorating Experience at Amorette’s Patisserie, the Disney owned-and-operated bakery in Disney Springs. From the get-go (it has been open for just over a year), Amorette’s Patisserie has been known for offering a feast for the eye as well as the palate, creating miniature works of art in the form of pastries, cookies, and cakes.
Guests visiting Amorette’s have also spied Character Dome Cakes among the treats. These signature creations feature the associated colors and costume features of beloved characters like Goofy, Donald, Minnie, and Pluto. But perhaps none are as recognizable as the Main Mouse himself: Mickey!
In fact, registered participants in the Cake Decorating Experience at Amorette’s Patisserie get to learn how to decorate a Mickey Mouse Dome Cake of their very own in a hands-on, small group setting limited to twelve guests. And we’d like to share with you our experience at the class today!
The 90-minute class started bright and early at 9:00 am in the Amorette’s Patisserie show kitchen. (The store itself doesn’t typically open until 11:00 am or 12:00 noon each day, so the class takes place prior to opening.) [Read more…]

If you’re exploring Animal Kingdom’s Pandora – The World of AVATAR with a group, you might be very interested to hear about the Satu’li Sampler Platter at Satu’li Canteen!
Satu’li Canteen is the Counter Service restaurant in Disney World’s newest land, and it’s already made a name for itself as a spot for innovation. How? Well, it was the first restaurant to offer the new Mobile Order process, which allows guests to pre-order and pre-pay for their meal, then bypass the ordering queue and pick up their order right away upon arrival. (You can learn more about Mobile Order here.)
And now, Satu’li Canteen is earning a headline for innovation once more thanks to the offering of the shareable Satu’li Sampler Platter!
The Satu’li Sampler Platter brings to mind the Secret Nachos Rio Grande Challenge at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Café, custom made to serve a crowd! Unlike the Nachos, though, the Satu’li Sampler Platter is no secret. It comes right up on the Satu’li Canteen menu, as you can see on the screenshot from the My Disney Experience app Mobile Order section below.
You can see in the notes (if you look reeaaaalllyyy close 😉 ) that the Platter is only available AFTER 5:00 pm until close. It comes with the guests’ choice of four proteins, a sampling of each base and sauce, and four non-specialty beverages. [Read more…]

We know you’re out there, Lighthouse Sandwich fans.
And, as you can tell from the title of this post, we’ve got some not-so-great news for you.
For those of you who may be a little lost on this particular topic, though, allow me to explain. Magic Kingdom’s Columbia Harbour House is well known and loved for providing tasty Counter Service fare, with a few not-so-typical choices like the Chicken and Fish Platter and Shrimp Mac and Cheese.
Even these, however, never reached quite the cult status of the Harbour House’s two longtime signature sandwiches: the Anchors Aweigh Sandwich and the Lighthouse Sandwich (okay, the Lobster Roll comes close, but still…). Many guests seem to have a dedicated favorite between the two.
We can inform diehard fans of the Anchors Aweigh tuna sandwich that it remains safe on the menu.
Unfortunately, we can’t say the same for the Lighthouse Sandwich. The hummus, tomato and broccoli slaw sandwich – served on the same multigrain bread as the Anchors Aweigh – is no longer available at Columbia Harbour House, and Cast Members informed us that as far as they are aware it’s not coming back. We are just a little over a month away from the start of the Epcot Food and Wine Festival, and it’s all starting to fall into place!
Soon, we’ll be hanging out, trying new things and enjoying old favorites at Marketplace Booths. And with 35 booths to choose from, situated within World Showcase as well as Future World, there are tons of great eats and drinks to choose from!
We expect to eat way more than 12 things 😉 — but you need to start somewhere! So whether you’re crunched for time, on a budget, or just want the CliffsNotes version of what you’ve gotta try, we’re getting you ready for this year’s Dine Around by sharing the 12 Things You MUST Eat at the Epcot Food and Wine Festival.
OK, this is not only new to the Festival…it’s completely new altogether! One of our favorite breweries has done it again. Previously known for their grapefruit beer, this festival-exclusive (YEP, you can ONLY get it at the festival!) Pomegranate variety is off the charts. Find it at the Brewers Collection Booth!
The Canada Booth is the undisputed champion of the festival. No — seriously. Sales at this booth top all others (which has been known to spark a little competition among the “countries,” we hear).
And while it’s a given that we’re stopping here for the Le Cellier Filet, you might have a hard choice to make between this dish (it’s soooo gooooooood) and the Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup.
So do what we do. Don’t choose. [Read more…]
