Central Florida has been hit hard by the hurricane season this year.
Hurricane Ian in Disney World
First, Hurricane Ian caused heavy rainfall, winds, flooding, and closures at Disney World back in September. Now, Tropical Storm Nicole is on its way, and there are some important Disney World updates you need to know if you’re traveling currently or soon.
We’re near the end of hurricane season, but the storms aren’t stopping. Tropical Storm Nicole is headed toward Florida right now.
Tropical Storm Ian near Disney World
The storm is already impacting the state, with closures and tropical storm watches being issued. Orlando International Airport is closing Wednesday afternoon due to the storm, and we’re also seeing closures and cancelations at Disney World. Extended Evening Hours, water parks, nighttime entertainment, and more have been canceled due to the storm, and now, we’re seeing even more closures at the resort due to Tropical Storm Nicole.
UPDATE: Disney World has planned a phased closure for all the theme parks beginning at 5PM on November 9th. Some hotels will be closed as well — see the details below.
Tropical Storm Nicole — which is currently forecasted to become a Category 1 hurricane before making landfall on Florida’s east coast — is changing plans at Disney World.
In an announcement posted on their website Tuesday morning, Disney World said they are currently operating normally, but that closures starting tomorrow will affect the vacations of some guests.
If you’ve ever visited Disney World during hurricane season, you probably know how much the weather can change in a day.

But aside from those daily afternoon storms, Disney World can also experience hurricanes! Recently, Hurricane Ian (later downgraded to Tropical Storm Ian) caused significant damage across Florida, and now it looks like another storm could be forming soon.

We’ve also talked about the possibility of another hurricane affecting Disney World soon. Now, a new tropical storm is set to become a hurricane, so we’re looking at if it would impact Florida.

Flooded construction
Hurricane Ian dropped massive amounts of rain on various areas within the state (including Disney World) and caused some sign and tree damage in Disney World as well. If you’re within the City of Orlando though, the hurricane had an impact on something important and an emergency alert is now in place.
