Disney World has fallen into a deep slumber since closing its theme parks on March 16th.

And while Disney officials were tentatively planning on re-opening Walt Disney World Resort April 1st, the temporary closure has just been extended.
More of us are working from home these days, which can bring about some unique challenges in trying to get through the day. As all the Disney Parks around the world closed in the past couple of months, it became obvious that the Walt Disney Company was in for a serious financial blow to their bottom line.

The truth is, when it comes to figuring out how much these closures will cost Disney, we can’t calculate an exact dollar amount. In reality, we probably won’t learn about any real numbers until Disney releases their quarterly reports and their subsequent Fiscal Year 2020 Annual Financial Report.

In the meantime, however, we can look to previous years’ reports and come to the conclusion that, to no one’s surprise, Disney stands to lose A TON of money by closing the parks.
It’s hard to imagine that Magic Kingdom first opened its doors all the waaaaay back on October 1st, 1971.

And while we’ll have to wait until 2021 to celebrate Disney World’s big 50th-anniversary, we’re kicking off the festivities a little early today!
Disney World is currently in the midst of the lengthiest closure in its history and things could look a LOT different when the theme parks reopen.

Today, we’re taking a look at what the current situation means for the future of Disney World. Will things really change? (Yes.) How much? (Hmm…) Nothing’s certain yet, but we can get an idea of where we’re headed by taking a look at history and similar situations — even some very recent ones.
With a halt on all construction in Disney World during the closure, we didn’t expect to find anything too exciting when we went looking for new building permits this week. So, we were surprised to find two of the most interesting permits we’ve found in a while!

It looks like even though construction is halted, Imagineers are still getting a head start on the paperwork for some big projects for the future. We spotted TWO permits for demolition at the address registered to Stitch’s Great Escape in Magic Kingdom!

And no, we don’t mean the United Kingdom pavilion in Epcot — though how cute are the Winnie the Pooh and Rabbit Flower and Garden topiaries!? (Psst – you can go on a Virtual Tour of the Flower and Garden Festival with us here!)
What we DO mean is the Crystal Palace! If you’re unfamiliar, the Crystal Palace is a character dining restaurant in Magic Kingdom where you can dine with Winnie the Pooh and his friends during breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It’s a classic character dining experience, and one that Winnie the Pooh fans will love! But is the high price of the meal ($55/ adult at lunch or dinner) worth it? Sometimes, geographical circumstances can keep us on the wrong side of the Disney park gates, which is a total bummer! Luckily, we have Disney+ from the comfort of our homes to be able to get us by. And boy, are there a lot of options!
